Description
Well, this is the first time I drew them all - the Lost Cubs of the Pridelands. From the left:
Malka, holding Mheetu, Kula, Tojo, Tama and Chumvi.
In my theory, Malka and his mother moved to the Pridelands shortly before Scar took over. As the cubs grew, Scar took interest in the girls, but grew more and more worried about the boys, as they posed a great threat to his rule. Before the cubs grew too strong, Scar therefore decided to get rid of them. His own son, Nuka, was no good either, but Scar thought that the cub would most likely not survive anyway, and let him stay. The girls however, could prove useful should he need an heir - Kula could be bethroved at a young age and produce a male heir for him, or... he could try to produce an heir himself with either Tama or Nala. Because of this, the girls were kept under close guard at all times. The mothers were on to Scar's plan though, and Malka's mother told the boys to flee in the night, and escape to Malka's family that they left when they moved to the Pridelands. Malka's pride knew that Scar's hyenas were looking for the cubs though, and decided to evacuate the whole pride, including the cubs, moving further away from the Pridelands.
Tama, Kula and Nala spend their teens in constant fear that their friends and brothers had been killed, as this was what Scar told the pride. The pride did everything they could to protect the girls from Scar's interest in them.
I know, this theory is VERY close to Audrey's "Missing Pieces", (SPOILERS AHEAD) and the reason for that is super simple. I grew up reading her comic, and sort of just accepted her story as canon from the first read. I did, however, not know that the cubs survived until recently when she played the prank of the decade on us all, and revealed that the cubs had in fact not been killed. As a kid I always skipped those pages when I reread the comic, because I thought it was all so awful. So I decided early on that in MY version, they would survive, all of them, including little Mheetu, and return once they heard Simba was alive and back. Turns out, that's what Audrey had planned as well, except for Mheetu:
Now that I know they'll be alright, I'm just gonna go and reread the comic again, this time with peace in my heart lol
This drawing is actually quite old, it's a sketch I forgot all about, but had always wanted to finish:
Their colors are inspired by DJ88's and Audrey's versions, and of course, the official comic books.
