Like the creator said, it's for the Nuzlockers.
The first rule of a Nuzlocke is "If it faints it's dead and must be boxed forever". Crits are your worst nightmare in a Nuzlocke.

Ahh... the Nuzlocke. Can you believe that I had my beautifly go up against the first gym of Hoenn's Nosepass using absorb? the nosepass's Rock Tomb missed three times in a row, and just as I start laughing, it critical hits and killed Sid, my beautifly!

As much of a heartbreak a loss makes (trust me, I know), a Nuzlocke without losses makes for a really boring and uneventful challenge.

While my main objective is going to get through this alive, critical hits and self-destructs are unfortunately unavoidable.
I'll be completely devastated if Raze (My main, Torchic) or Kris (My Misdreavus) dies though. They're rather unreplacable...

Ugh. Nuzlocke. I just did a Nuzlocke run, and I lost my starter AND the first Pokemon I ever caught to critical hits.
