Self-diagnosis is ONLY acceptable if one isn't able to get to a doctor, but even then.. what is it more than just a label? People seek a professional diagnosis for medication and professional help. If you self diagnose, you aren't able to get that; it's basically an empty husk of a diagnosis. It's just a label that does nothing, even if accurate. Being able to get professionally diagnosed is part of financial and situational privilege; some people don't have that and are going to naturally have a harder time. I, personally don't self-diagnose. I feel shame in doing it.

Not necessary to verify, as you've stated you're against self-diagnosis.

Well I'm asking if you legitimately have ocd because that's what it is intrusive thoughts
I would know they've made my life since 9 a living hell

Absolutely correct! Like I can get people saying "I feel depressed" or "I think I MIGHT have depression" but not "I definitely have this because I googled it" (exaggerated but still)

YES exactly.
I've probably thought I've had a bit of everything at one point lol.. never actually claimed I had them, though. That'd be ridiculous.

Im only in support it for very prominant things.
Like, i didnt need anyone to tell me i have gender dysphoria and i didnt need anyome to tell me i had depression. So...
But im against it for things that can be kind of vague, like, having a lump for example doesnt mean you have cancer, or an occasional mood flip doesnt mean you have mpd or something, sometimes you know sometimes you dont and when you dont you need to seek a doctor.

There are many studies that also show how harmful IT can be and how many people walked arround while suffering thinking they knew what they got

Yes ! and I've observed that many people give themselves symptoms by stressing out about it too.

I used to self diagnose myself alle the time, I was so wrong on so many levels, I thought I had breast cancer at one point

I agree with this 100%
It's like if there's something physically wrong, like for example a headache, you can't just say "Oh I have a self diagnosed brain tumor"
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Buniis In reply to ClockworkCrooked [2017-11-14 06:18:43 +0000 UTC]
Exactly !! Like, you can self diagnose a headache, yes but not the condition because that's just a symptom ?? It's dumb lol.

But... the formal diagnosis was moderate depression, the meds were for anxiety and he gave me a bunch of apps to help with cognitive therapy for PTSD.
No... I won't self diagnose, the doc gave me plenty to choose from.

I had enough challenges wrapping myself around the professional diagnosis & treatment, I didn't have any brain power left over for self-diagnosis.
