Stop guilt tripping victims of depression and other mental illnesses into thinking they're bad people for wanting to end their own suffering. I can't believe this is controversial.Yes, it hurts their loved ones but it's selfish to only think of the loved ones than of the person who was so miserable, they ended or wanted to end their own lives. You're not helping anybody with those comments. They often make depressed and/or suicidal people feel worst. You're supposed be there for your loved ones, not gaslight them into feeling guilty about being in pain.
Side note; death is what humans fear the most. Calling a victim of suicide a "coward" or "selfish" is pretty disgusting and just straight up untrue.

It is if you get under a train, car or jump from a building. You can kill someone else or make them have a trauma for the rest of their life. If you wanna kill yourself, do it alone and in a place where a family can't find you.

I am suicidal to the point I have been hospitalized for it twice; and you know what; not a single doctor thought I was selfish not 1;
the fact that people see it as selfish in any way shape or form is stupid; yes suicide hurts those left behind but its like the person who died feelings didn't matter at all; they were in such pain and suffering that death became an optionΒ
being suicidal can literally be the result of a medical condition like chronic depression
the "suicide is selfish" arguement has always sounded like "people only cut for attention"
and its obvious that they themselves haven't truly gone through itΒ
in most cases ( from personal experience and from people I have met while in the hospitals )Β
the re-occurring problem was they were really depressed and those around them told them that they "were being selfish" "making it up" or "doing it for attention" or something along those lines they suffered greatly and the people who should have helped them; didn't, and at some point it does become to late for normal help, but that is why it is so important to look at people and do everything you can to help them now Β

tbh i've had to struggle a lot with people who kept calling me a selfish coward when i used to be suicidal, and yes, it does make suicidal people feel worse instead of helping them.

If you think it is not selfish, then you have never lost anyone to suicide and you are speaking from assumptions.
Selfish
(of a person, action, or motive) lacking consideration for other people; concerned chiefly with one's own personal profit or pleasure.
Causing another person pain is selfish. Period.
To do it without consideration for the well-being or outcome of others is selfish. There is no other explanation.
If this is not selfish, then neither is anything else that causes suffering to another for the sake of someone else's happiness.
This makes rape not selfish.
This makes theft not selfish.
This makes bullying not selfish.
This make cruelty not selfish.
This makes molestation not selfish.

My uncle committed suicide over losing his job, my dad calls him a coward and an asshole for leaving his family and friends behind and leaving holes in our hearts. He said all my uncle did was hurt the people he left behind because him killing himself didn't solve anything, he took a permanent solution to a temporary problem. I sometimes believe him because yes it didn't solve anything but calling him an asshole may have been too far. My uncle showed no signs of depression, he was the fun guy in our family, always kept things light and fun. I think people who commit suicide are a bit ungrateful for their lives, people should be grateful for the lives they have, no matter how shitty it may be. I know it's hard to believe that but the fact that you are alive is a gift of itself. So many people have had their lives shortened because of natural disasters they couldn't control and killing yourself when times get tough is not the answer. I used to be suicidal but then I realized I shouldn't act that way anymore and make the best out of the life I have, I embrace the little things in life that give me happiness and decide they're worth living for. People shouldn't throw their life away when times get tough, people have challenges and struggles but it's not worth killing yourself over a temporary problem. Nothing lasts forever.

This is the opinion of someone who was also suicidal, I wasn't belittling people's feelings, I know what it feels like to be suicidal, I even have friends who are suicidal, people just need to realize it's not just them who are hurting but people around them who will hurt once they leave. And I am not disrespecting my uncle, my family all loved my uncle and it pained all of us to see him go. Why not hear out people's opinions instead of saying they're automatically disgusting for having a different opinion than you. You're calling me, a suicidal victim disgusting, try listening to the opinion of someone who recovered from being suicidal.Β
