butterfly36rs — Amaryllis Love Potion Number 9

Description The sexual anatomy of a blushing amaryllis, a complete and perfect flower with both male and female reproductive organs, petals, and sepals. The pollen covered anthers dangle on filaments. Pushing past them is the stigma and the style, a tube leading to the ovary buried in the core of the flower.

Petals are like a pretty dress, or a good hair day... relatively unimportant in the grand scheme of things but awfully flashy!

Thanks so much! I can't take credit for the background... this is a studio shot. I decided I wanted a perfectly plain backdrop, so I shot this in my studio against white paper.

Ah, well, I still like it. How did you get the butterfly to cooperate?? Would love to create a little studio! I'm going to have to work on it.

Butterfly?

Yes, I have a tendency to refer to lovelies as butterflies. Part of my old world environment when growing up (similar to the Ausie's use of "birds"). My slip!!

Oh, no worries! I was just wondering if you thought it was a pic of a butterfly!

You know, it was so long ago, I have to go back now and figure it out! Sigh, see what different time zones and travel does to a cat?!?

Yes, I can relate. Though I don't travel nearly as much as I'd like!

Well, sometimes I think travel is over rated. One works really hard to get some money and time to go somewhere, and then the stress of travel coupled with making up for lost time seems to add more stress to a life, not less.

Where have you traveled? I have been lucky, I guess, to have traveled as much as I have. And even with the brain infarctions, still do enjoy the stimulation of new . . .

Brain infarctions? Caused by the stress of travel? Vacations can sometimes require recovery time, LOL!

I've lived overseas and traveled a bit in SE Asia. I've also been to Peru. I've traveled to Montreal, Canada. And I've been to the Dominican Republic. Oh, and a Disney cruise, haha!

Where have you been?

CatManCanDo In reply to butterfly36rs [2008-05-12 14:29:20 +0000 UTC]

WOW! I would love to visit both Peru and SE Asia. Perhaps some day.

I have traveled to all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, Poland, France, England, Scotland, Ireland, Argentina, Trinidad, Tobago (multiple times), Bonaire, Barbados, St. Lucia, Various Bahamian Islands, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel.

Seems like a lot now that I write it all out.

I don't know... I feel as if I've not had much variety lately, except by throwing in some older images. I've got so many images to upload from last spring and summer even...

fineartbyandrewdavid In reply to butterfly36rs [2008-01-31 02:30:32 +0000 UTC]

How many images do you have ? assumingly you shoot digitally do you just upload photos straight from the camera or is there some post producton editing required, just being curious. Like you i have tons of images going back as far as 2000/01/02 currently stored on a 200gb hard drive which consists of photos
and ones which i create images from followed by the fact i also design and create my own buisness cards logos, banners & buttons for websites [link] along with animations like my avatar

butterfly36rs In reply to fineartbyandrewdavid [2008-01-31 02:45:00 +0000 UTC]

I have two 500 gb storage drives. They are not full, of course, but I save all my images, even the junk ones. I also burn them onto DVDs, though I'm a bit behind on burning...

When I shoot, I usually fill a 1 gig card (158 images raw+jpg), but I do bracket exposures. I also am still learning and experimenting, so I often try different angles and focal points for the same subject.

There is some post production, but usually minor, such as slight curves, mild sharpening. Sometimes I add a soft gaussian blur filter layer to enhance color and depth. But I try to avoid over-processing images.

I currently have roughly 300 images ranging from spring 2007 to the present that are ready to post. You can see that sometimes I get a bit "lost" in a subject, and take many, many photos of it. This amaryllis is an extreme example... I don't think I've ever taken quite THIS many photos of a single subject!

Wow that sounds amazing
and to say i hope you didn't mind me asking those questions
i now use a 1gb card ( SD) as the camera i use now a Canon S3 won't take the other format (CF) which i used with my Fuji Fine Pix 602 as with storage its always good to have that as an extra precaution
i also do some post production work to my photos but if they come out reasonably good then i leave them untouched

Of course and i don't know if you have recently visited my gallery don't worry if you haven't as i can see you are obviously busy with going through your photos you will see there are ones which i have created entirely from my photos, one last thing what does bracket exposure mean

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

butterfly36rs In reply to fineartbyandrewdavid [2008-01-31 03:26:46 +0000 UTC]

Bracket exposure is to take pictures one stop above and below the selected f-stop. This gives you three images with various exposures.

I've not had much time for browsing and viewing submissions lately. My time on dA has been fractured with other work and household stuff. So I'm here uploading from time to time and answering comments, but not much commenting. I have briefly viewed your gallery. You seem to be having fun with post work!
