Description This was a piece from a series I was working on at school. I was looking at 19th medical illustration, medieval bestiary illustration, and old printed fairy tale illustrations. They were then combined to make a new sort of visual language.

The 'trees' were originally constructed from various medical illustrations (can you find the prostate? ), and then made from the 'language' of medical illustration. Mmm, veins. This stemmed off from research about ways of knowing, particularly old, forgotten and/or abandoned ones.

This was one of those drawing-2-inches-from-the-surface drawings, done with tiny little pens. I used gray and black pens to try to give a tiny bit of depth to the image. Neck has a permanent crick now. Very stress relieving, though

will upload some details later

The whole landscape/background becomes so utterly creepy when you realise what they're made of. But, great work! The detailing is amazing!

And, I love the style the wolves are drawn in. Very eastern and medieval.

I like the wolves. They look like shadow puppets. I also like how the trees look like muscles. Very nice style!

And no I do not want to find the prostrate...

Awesome fusion of styles! I thought the trees looked rather....organic. HA! Now that's some organic fruit you DON'T want to eat!

Veins are fun!! geez i should try them smtime

This is a fascinating piece - to put it mildly. it is marvellously inventive and vaguely disturbing. looks like the cover of a visionary scifi novel by the likes of HG Wells or Dorothy Bryant

whoa, that's really neat and different and strange but in a good way.

I can't identify any of the body parts because I have very little medical knowledge.

very nice detail. Are you thinking of coloring this in the future? I cannot find the prostate! Buuuut I think I can live with that.

I didn't see it in the detail picture, but the medical illustrations you used for the surroundings makes this even more fantastic! This really is something else, I wish I'd come up with batshit-crazy-but-really-really-working stuff!

Whoa. This is a really spectacular piece of work. I love the textures you've created with the concentration of lines, and the stylized wolves that would look like the work of master artist on a 15th century tapestry. Bravo, and I'd love to see more.
