JACINTA "JAYCI" CHAVEZ (MEXICO)
Professional record: 12-0-1 (9 KO's)
5'7", Super Lightweight (140 lbs)
Inspired by her father and an older brother Jacinta Chavez took up boxing gloves at age 12. Always ready to stand her ground and put up her fists in any confrontation, little "Jayci" soon found out that she enjoyed hitting other girls and she was delighted when people came to her father's boxing gym in Mexico City to see her taking on bigger girls in amateur fights. Her father was proud of his daughter's spirit and by the time she was 13 she was winning amateur boxing competitions all over Mexico.
As she grew into a beautiful teenager her parents wanted her to become a professional model but Jayci had other plans. "There are lots of pretty girls", she told them. "I don't want to be one in a crowd, I want to stand out. I want to become a professional boxer!".
Jayci's father told her that professional boxing was a tough sport and there was more to it that she needed to prepare for, but if she would wait until she was 18 to begin boxing professionally he would train her and support her. She spent several years honing her skills and continued to compete as an amateur, winning every tournament she entered and becoming the national champion.
In her debut pro fight at age 18 she knocked out her 25-year old opponent in the first round, and by age 19 she had won the national Super Lightweight title.
Rising boxing promoter Olga Kuznetsova then saw a contest between Jayci and the Mexican Lightweight champion Guadalupe Ramirez as a possible moneymaker but plans for that had to be shelved when Ramirez was knocked out by Killer Katie Keaton. When Keaton moved up to Super Lightweight to take on Texan Beth Anderson in a thrilling trilogy, winning the last of the three by knockout, Kuznetsova saw a huge opportunity for PPV sales on both sides of the border if Keaton could be lured to Mexico City to fight Jayci.
