Description SAKURAAAAA *gets buried*

....It gets a little ridiculous here around this time of year XD;; These trees are EVERYWHERE.

I never really understood the fascination with sakura to be honest. I figured people are so hung-up about it simply because it's HURR JAPNEES!

Recently however I read an artist's explanation in a magazine somewhere that the fascination isn't exactly with the flower itself, but with how short it blooms and how quickly they wilt. He said he saw it as a relfection on life itself. That it is beautiful, but short and that is why the flowers are seen as poetic.

I dunno if this is how every-one sees them but after reading this I'm seeing them in a different light.

We don't exactly have spring back home in Africa (or at least not where I'm from), so sights like these are fascinating to me.

But then it's sakura. I mean what HASN'T been said about these things right?

Taken 2010 Vancouver.

How beautiful! It's so lovely to have some spring color around once again. Sakura petals...*Sighs.* Our cherry tree out back only blooms for a few days a year...but it's so pretty once it does!

In Vancouver? Very nice.

We don't have cherry trees where I'm from, so this was quite the experience

Woooow... unique perspective. I like it. What a pretty little spot. Are those flower petals? They remind me of my gran's cherry trees when I was a little girl.

Rejoicing in the day,
-Mary

I've always been fascinated with areas that have definite seasonal changes.

We have definite seasons, but there's no hard and fast rules for them.

XDD we have... 2 definite seasons. Summer and winter 8D

54viruses In reply to C-Puff [2010-03-24 02:34:43 +0000 UTC]

We have all four seasons... we also have snow in mid-summer, green grass in the dead of winter and who knows what in spring and fall. We can't really tell what season it is until we're in the thick of it and even then it's hard to tell.

C-Puff In reply to 54viruses [2010-03-24 02:36:29 +0000 UTC]

XDD For us it's easy. If it hasn't rained in 6 months and is below 20 degrees Celsius it's winter. If there are super violent thunder storms at night and the heat peaks at around 30 it's summer.
There's about a week's adjustment between the two which I guess is kinda "spring" and "Autumn" XDDD

I really like the plastic cup and newspaper in there. (Though everyone needs to recycle)
I feel it carries on the whole "things left behind" feel from the fallen blossoms on the ground...

Rika24 [2010-03-23 03:25:27 +0000 UTC]

beautiful. they're my favorite flower and i dunno why. we have a tree in our backyard and i've always loved it, long before i even knew of it's connection to Japan (i was a little kid lol, i knew of nothing but Disney and other American cartoons)

i do have one question though... have you ever tasted one of the cherries? i dunno if there's a difference between the pink and white cherry trees, but the one in my backyard always has white ones and the cherries are always so sour.

it's kinda sad though that the flowers don't stay long

C-Puff In reply to Rika24 [2010-03-23 03:29:44 +0000 UTC]

Thanks
I'd never seen them before I came to Canada so I only knew them from anime up to the point where they were already cliche by the time I saw the real thing. But when I finally saw them in real life I kinda got why people say they're so pretty.

I've never actually seen the cherries to be honest XD;

Rika24 In reply to C-Puff [2010-03-23 03:36:11 +0000 UTC]

lol, no one notices the cherries (they do the same in anime/manga). cherries have always been my favorite fruit (followed VERY close by apples and grapes). maybe that's why i love cherry trees so much lol.

we used to have an apple tree, but it had to be cut down for some reason i don't remember

Such a beautiful photo!
We don't have any cherry trees around my place But those blossoms are so pretty. I love the angle you chose for this shot, it almost adds the feeling of being a child looking up at the trees.

must fave

Aww, thank you very much! X'3 this was the only photo I took from this angle and it's also one of my favourite because of it. I should've taken more like this.
Anyway thanks again!
