Core Theme: Stubborn but heroic fathers that learn to accept their sons for their differences and make peace with nature instead of fighting it.
Legendary and beloved figures seen as leaders by the people of a secluded land (Jaeger being Avalonia’s greatest explorer / Stoick being the Chief of Berk’s viking tribe).
They’re both famous for their skill and bravery as they face the dangers of nature in order to protect people.
They have one ultimate goal that takes priority over everything else for them, even the wishes of their families (seeing what’s on the other side of Avalonia’s mountains / killing dragons).
They have sons that are surprisingly scrawny and much less skilled than their fathers in their professions (Searcher / Hiccup).
Due to their lack of physical ability, their sons opted to go about things differently (Searcher providing for people by farming and avoiding danger / Hiccup dealing with dragons nonlethally and training them). They initially were unimpressed and wrote these strategies off as foolish.
Thanks to the help of a creature (Splat / Toothless) that a descendant of theirs (Ethan / Hiccup) befriended by helping them recover from an injury, they discovered the center of the wildlife they had perceived as the enemy (Avalonia’s heart / the dragons’ nest).
When they realized that the wellbeing of their people depended on it, they abandoned their ultimate goals to help their sons in the fight against a massive ecological threat (Jaeger giving up a chance to see the other side of the mountains to help Searcher destroy Pando and save Avalonia’s superorganism / Stoick saving Hiccup and Toothless so they can defeat the Red Death, benefiting both vikings and dragons).
In the end, they made peace with their families and embraced their differences, learning to cooperate with nature instead of fighting it.
They had statues built in their honor.
Contrast: When they reunited with their wives (Penelope / Valka), Stoick (briefly) got back together with her while Jaeger’s had remarried.
Disney VS DreamWorks
This is definitely a battle where the combatants would gain a lot of respect and admiration for their ability over the course of the fight.
That being said, Stoick, in all his seriousness, would probably be put off initially by Jaeger’s showboating and overconfidence. There could be some nice progression from here into a mutual understanding of each other.
The fight could start in the sky, with Jaeger on a flying machine and Stoick riding Skullcrusher.
With Stoick’s axe and Jaeger’s spear, there would be a good mix of weapon combat and hand-to-hand, putting their immense strength on display.
Take advantage of the environment and have most of the fight take place in a forest, conquering nature as they go.
I would love a scene where Jaeger blasts Stoick with his flamethrower, and he just shrugs it off like a badass. He has fought Monstrous Nightmares with his bare hands after all.
The death could be quite emotional. I don’t know how, but perhaps it could end in a sacrifice, like how Stoick gave his life to save Hiccup.
