Description When she heard that I'd read The Grand Sophy by Georgette Heyer, *suburbanbeatnik asked me if I was going to do fanarts. I didn't thought I would, but her question inspired me. So, here you go: Charles Rivenhall and Sophy Stanton-Lacy at the end of the novel.
Inked, for the first time, with a G-pen ~gianmac lent me; not as flexible as Hunt #108.

No philological fashion intended; I kept imagining Sophy as a Wildean heroine.

I'm not familiar with this novel, but this is a beautful drawing. I love the details on Sophy's dress and her curly hair!

I've read a few Georgette Heyers, and this drawing convinced me to pick up The Grand Sophy! I'm about halfway through.

It's a witty love story set in the Regency. If you like the premises, it's great fun

This was my first Heyer! When a friend actually suggested me to read her eight years ago I'm considering about reading a few more.

I just bought one from my local store. My aunt recommended them to me - but they were
out of print until a few months ago I have come to love the regency era

Ah, well, in fact Sophy's robe here is not only philologically wrong - she should be dressed in early XIX cent. fashion - but also completely unreferenced
Thank you!

Wow, really? Thank you, Doc!
Georgette Heyer [link] is a prolific writer of Recency novel, more or less in line with Jane Austen. The Grand Sophy was great fun to read, especially for the wit and energy of the main character.

I love you for drawing this, even if Sophy looks like she travelled back in time to vex Charles. But your inkwork is as lovely and expressive as usual! Good job!

cabepfir In reply to suburbanbeatnik [2011-03-16 10:12:47 +0000 UTC]

Ahah, yes. I just wanted to draw them as I imagined them, and so here you have a bit of fashion mix. I leave philology to you

suburbanbeatnik In reply to cabepfir [2011-03-18 10:11:34 +0000 UTC]

Philology? Isn't that... *looks up on wikipedia*... "study of language in written historical sources"? I don't know anything about that.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

cabepfir In reply to suburbanbeatnik [2011-03-18 10:24:12 +0000 UTC]

Since philology is a scientific study of literature, based on its historical aspects, the term is used in a larger sense also to mean "historical correctness", so to say that something is philologically correct means that it's based on serious researches. Your fashion drawings are philologically correct because you base them on contemporary paintings, and so on.
