Description
So recently, I had a 2 part art epiphany that both could be summed up with the phrase "Why didn't I think this sooner?!". The first one involves Ruben Falcon's part time job. And we've been here before, folks. Several times.
First Ruben's part time job was at a 50's styled diner, which never really got past the concept phase and didn't even show up in any of the stories I've been writing behind the scenes.
Then I said that Ruben Falcon and the persona of my good friend; Brandon Hunt, co-started a company called "Owl Moth Industries" (which is still a thing)
And then there's this one concept that I never got the chance to illustrate where Ruben is a jack of all trades and is usually called to do several different kind of favors with his inventions. I might look back into that someday, but I ain't making any promises.
But this follows under the phrase "Why didn't I think this sooner?!" because this job Ruben has here is Brainstormer's: his own...how do I put this? An industrial park? Does that make sense? Sure, let's go with that.
What I'm trying to say is that this place is a business where Ruben fixes, builds, upgrades and recycles things that people send over to him. I also had the idea for it to be some sort of service station; like gas station or a mechanics garage that also has a place where you can eat food and buy supplies. I actually have some designs for what would be miniature buildings inside this industrial park. And it'd all be in that little scrapyard looking area from the Bird Island sketch from a while back, except a lot cleaner than an actual scrapyard.
I actually got the idea for that from games like Avengers Academy and Club Penguin Island; 2 games that I never played and aren't around anymore. I also got the idea from this one obscure show I use to watch as a kid called "Lunar Jim" .
The reason why this idea makes me wanna scream "Why didn't I think this sooner?!" is because, well, why didn't I?! Ever since I designed this persona waaaaaaaay back when I was a child, Ruben has always been building and fixing machines to help say the day! He was less Jimmy Neutron and more Rusty Rivets. So why didn't I ever think of giving Ruben a job that involves him fixing and building things for others?
Hell, my own mother once told me that if I actually was a child inventor, our family would've been set for life!
Also, this checks in with that Collision City concept I thought of ages ago with the aforementioned Brandon Hunt, since Collision City is suppose to be some sort of industrial city where people sell their craft. So this could be like Ruben's attempt of doing exactly that.
Though, it won't interfere with the aforementioned Owl Moth Industries we just talked about. I'd like to think that Brainstormer's could be like the Bat Cave and Owl Moth could be like the Watch Tower. Does that make sense? Sure, let's go with that.
Anyways, in this picture, we have character, places and vehicles sketches for Brainstormer's.
First we have Ruben Falcon himself with Madame Rosewood; his robotic dog of a sidekick. Ruben gets new work duds, mostly based off of one of his old casual clothes designs from back in my day as Brainstormer623 and we see Ruben making use of his natural super strength. Honestly, back in the day, I figured that since Ruben is a handy man and is, as the old song goes, "strong as 10 regular men, definitely", he'd most likely get a job at a construction site or a warehouse of some sort. So this kinda works.
Also, Rosewood role in this job would be the same during her and Ruben's missions for C.A.S.E.; being Ruben's right hand man. And while Rosewood doesn't have access to her Cadabra tools, she can still do things like drive mini-vehicles and organize supplies and help customers.
Then there's the sketch of the front gate of the industrial park. Again, I know it looks like a garbage dump, but I'm still working on the mini-building sketches.
Next there's a Robo-Shed; one of the robots Ruben made to help in the park. It bares a striking resemblance to Houseware; Ruben's smart home and mobile base of operations. And that's because, like a lot of the robotic furniture Ruben uses at home, these Robo-Sheds are like a hive-mind connected to Houseware's main computer. So he can help control them while he's still at home.
And lastly is a hover-van I've been working on. Complete with robotic claw arms, a tow-hook and a trunk full of junk. That last part would be where I would put a "just like how I like my women" joke, if I had the balls to do so. The concept for this was suppose to be based around the Ultimate Recycling Truck from Paw Patrol and a car I saw in my favorite Aqua Teens episodes; Last Dance for Napkin Lad. I didn't quite get it, but it's close and I think I could do better next time.
One last thing I want to say about Brainstormer's is that, much like Houseware, I almost want this to be mobile somehow. Like all of the machines and miniature buildings to either fly or be able to magically teleport to any other world Ruben wants. Or maybe all of the parts of the industrial park combine into a giant airship. I have literally no idea how I could pull something like that off, but I'll be a deep friend Hufflepuff if I'm not gonna try.
Except a lot more artwork regarding this concept in the near future. Especially given the fact that, unlike a majority of the other concepts for a part time job, Brainstormer's actually managed to spark some good ideas on how to start off a story.
