If I could talk to you just one more time,I would have told you what a great dad you were.
If I could give you one last hug,
I would never let go.
If I could see your face again,
I would have smiled at you.
If I could tell you my inner thoughts,
I would have said that I truly regret.
If I could turn back time,
I would have been better those last years.
If I could whisper in your ear,
I would have whispered that you're still with me in my dreams.
Please, let us meet again.

I think the poem is nice. Like how is written straight, perhaps not so strange when you think of it. personal stuff is just one road.
what i find strange, are people who does forget something like this. I hardly saw my dad, but still i remember what he was like too me.
every once in a while you get this feeling of regret, a needle marching a journey deeper. eventually it will past of like the rest, but you never forget.
be glad you remember the good parts of your childhood. I happen to remember them all. 
being able see what a twat you where as a younger and foolish kid, makes you think of the present lifetime you have. It makes you more of a thinker and specially personal stuff or humanic and sosial stuff gets caught up.
another thing that scares me is when you find a song that remembers you of the past like that. Scary when you cant sleep at night and listen to a certain song for hours and hours.. you want to write stuff dont but you are not sure how.. and as you write you can see that your language is much different from the one you current are having. like you hit that special intelligent bit.
Its all in your mind. Images, different variables of feelings, beliefs and disbeliefs.. that little friend of yours is the controll. it never forgets, just hides the truth a little bit from you and fills up with some sort of wishdom and memories from you life.
