Oh, definitely. This is one of the better examples, I think. After consultation with ~LiZn , we decided that this one was a poplar. But my favorite example of tree adaptation has to be the diamond willow. Those trees can get spectacular!

Hmm. I don't think I've ever seen a diamond willow. Then again, there aren't very many willows here.

True. They're mostly found in Alaska (thank goodness! Wouldn't want a blight like that on the majority of willows in the lower 48), and the trees don't tend to live as long as their uninfected cousins, but peeled and dried when they die they look gorgeous.
