Description Found this tree in Deloraine, Tasmania. Was still raining here so had to edit some drops off the lens Quite surreal as it was really misty and there was no one around!

EDIT: made it a bit more surreal looking!

Well, I am kind puzzled about this.

The tree has such a character and the composition is great, so why adding photoshop rays here? It would be a great image without them, right?
It looks very fine in my eyes in every part, but the grey rays in the upper right and left corners. You would avoid this by erasing or changing opacity bit of the rays in these areas.

I hope you don't get me wrong, I just feel sorry for these small details making the radial blur in PS so obvious for me :/

I see where your coming from, it just took it to another level with the rays though. Plus it was the first time i tried doing it and i felt pretty proud of the result haha

this is awesome. How did you perform that edit? I've tried it dozens of times but have never had this result.

I think you must have to have a good amount of highlights with surrounding shadow/detail... using channels load selection is the main thing really after bringing down the blacks, how are you doing it?

I try adding a zoom blur and then masking away the parts I don't want to be blurred. It just doesn't ever looking as snazzy as I want it to.

Hello, just copy your layer. use the radial blur and change the layers setting to lighten.

You can combine that with channels if you are used to them, just selected (like here) the light parts to exclude the tree.

oh, sick. I have not tried that, thanks

Thinking-Silence In reply to novelhill [2010-11-12 07:03:22 +0000 UTC]

it is an easy one

The best way to avoid blur where you don't want it to be:

let just the light areas get blurred (channels, load lights)
and then manually add some blur where you want it, by arranging the layers mask.
