Description Felt like doing something a little different one day, and told my characters to f- off and stop invading my brain for a few hours one afternoon.

I was flipping through a book I have on mythology, since I'm deeply interested in these sorts of things, and flipped to the Egyptian section since I have this...this...really, really strange, unknown attraction to Egypt, which I like to blame on the fact that I was probably an Egyptian in a past life because I'm dillusional like that...

Now, everyyyyyyyyyybbbbooodyyyy knows about Isis, and Bastet and LORD KNOWS everybody knows about Anubis. I wanted to do a god that was just as important but probably hardly known, so I found a little guy (well, kinda little...as little as Gods can be I suppose....) named Khnum and for some reason, I really, really wanted to draw him. I think it was the horns.

So off I went, using the little miniscule picture of Khnum, I made my own little illustration of him and...well here it is I had so much fun doing this one, especially the nose - infact, I think part of the reason I did this one was because I wanted to draw his nose. (For those who don't know, I have this thing about noses.) I wanted to keep it pretty simple and cartoony, so... well this is what I ended up with.

For those who want to know a little bit more about Khnum...ITSSSS INFORMATION TIME! *balloons and trumpets everywhere!* Khnum was one of the most important gods, and was considered the source of the Nile (this changed in certain areas where that title was given to other gods, yadda yadda...). In his earlier position as the "moulder" of the gods, it lead him to being identified as the "Ba" of Ra. Since Ba is also the word for ram, it was thought that he had the head of a Ram.
(And for anyone else who is wondering what a "ba" is: kinda like a soul to the egyptians - the part of the person that still lived when the person died.)

Thanks to Wikipedia for the information!

So here we have my rendition of Khnum. The picture I was looking at kinda made him look more like a...long...horned...ox..thing so thats whats up with his horns. I knew that he was a ram thing, but I liked how his horns came out and didn't want to really change them. I was debating making him an anthropomorphic ram-thing ,or simply give him a horned animal head and then make his body human... I actually liked the idea of making him more anthropomorphic, and I often like to picture the Egyptian gods more in this fashion then just a...well...freaky looking person with an animal head.

I did this one on cardstock paper (well, actually it's bristol...) and altho this is going to sound weird, I prefer to colour on regular paper. I still really like how this one came out. And, as you can see, I was really creative with the background, as I drew one of my signiture boxes, and then made it look like a wall in the background, kinda like an egyptian tomb.

(And just incase you don't know, I was being incredibly sarcastic, as that background is in the least creative) Really tho I didn't want anything crazy awesome advanced super cool hardcore for the background. Just something simple. I normally hate it when I use too much of the same colour tones for my pictures, but for some reason all the browns really fit in this one. I decided that rather then going crazy with his neck bling, I would just colour it all gold, and then do like... lines with a marker... That really is the only thing that bothers me but only because the lines are uneven. I kinda like his plushie-like ankh (it wasn't intended to look plushie but somehow it just... kinda ended up looking plushie. Now that I think of it, I should have drawn him with a potters wheel or something since that would have been more appropriate (since in paintings and stuff he's usually depicted with one.) But now that I think about it, I can't draw inanimate objects worth crap....

My scanner also spared this one slightly by not trying to eat it away into a pile of crappy crap. Only certain parts it made really..like wierd and shiny like... (I hate it when it does that, it does that alot and it's really frustrating.)I would almost like to say that my scanner might just be agreeing with me... but future pictures that I had scanned in after this one proved otherwise.

Anyway, just a little illustration of the Egyptian god, Khnum Khnum here is Β© to the Egyptians, I suppose

it goes pan in the waxing of the year, cernunnos in the middle part, and finally khnum n the ending or waing of the year

OOO I love egyptian stuff so much! I just love doing the eyes and the outfits and all that and wheee It's just a lot of fun! I love how they always anthropomorphasized everything and the great stories they came up with regarding how the world was started... I sometimes wonder what our world would be like if we kept that whole tons of gods thing...
Thankyou so much I had so much fun doing this one, I'll probably do another god sometime too His ears were really fun to do.. I really have a lot of fun drawing ears for some reason. Even tho a lot of my characters ears are really really boring, whenever I do stuff like this I just go all out. XD

Same! EGYPT RULES! *dork*
Wooo, it's great to see this. All the cool people love mythology. You've depicted Khnum so awesomely, in your own style. It's nice to see a god who doesn't have a freakish animal head!
Wooo once more, the anatomy is supple and lithe and god-ish, and his outfit looks brilliantly realistic. You did such a great job on the shading here too, and his horns and tail really do look nice; they're minimalistic but put across the whole deity power thing.

I would like to picture the egyptian gods as being like this really - I think the whole anthro thing works better for the gods then like...a dude with an animal head. I'm not too sure how exactly the egyptians would have envisioned thier gods but I guess this is just my interpretation of it!
I kinda wanted to make this look more cartoony so I wanted to keep jewelery and all that at a minimum
Mythology is soooo interesting... I love all kinds of mythology and have oodles of books on the subject! I'd love to try drawing more gods and goddess of not just egyptian but of all kinds of cultures

Anubis, wasnΒ΄t he the bad guy in Stargate?

Very cool drawing, something different but surely something very good. More!

I have no idea, I've never seen Stargate XD Wouldn't doubt it tho, I find Anubis is so over used. Not that he's not cool or anything, but considering that not really too much is known about his role in Egyptian society (from what I've learned from tv programs and things...) he sure is popular.
I'll definately draw more - I love Egypt I drew this Mesopotamian goddess (I can't remmeber the name) but i dunno if I wanna finish the drawing or not....

Anubis... In this series the bad aliens are pretending to be gods from mythology.

Mesopotamian Godess? Oh thatΒ΄s easy, they only have 500 or so.
