Description
By the time they made it back to the others, Lorarii was soaked the bone and exhausted.
Everything hurts, their freezing, and wolves are missing.
It takes days for anyone to even do anything.
But then some stranger shows up, someone that the others know, but Lorarii doesn't. An old Arynian, who wants to lead them back home, return them to the eyes of The One.
She's never really believed in The One, taken His name in vain more than in prayer.
And then she sees Phanuel, on the edge of the crowd, and he looks stuck.
He looks scared.
Elias says his peace, and several Arynian's step forward to agree, to follow. But Lorarii does not join them, instead they move slowly through the crowd, bumping softly into their friends side and watching that wide-eyed fear turn on them. "L-Lora, their leaving." They are, not all of them can travel yet, but those that can are bustling now to prepare. They seem excited, in a way, to have a purpose again. A goal. And Lorarii... Doesn't share it. She wishes she could.
Instead dread settles in the pit of her stomach, as she turns to her friend.
She knows Leviathan will go, knows many others will to, but Aryn... She just doesn't think it's home anymore, not with so many missing. Not when they place they will go to will likely follow The One even more closely then this sect.
"Are you... going with them?" They ask softly, ears going flat and voice small as they look into Phanuel's pleading eyes.
"I-I don't, I don't know." Hope sparks in Lorarii's chest. "I don't want to, but I can't, I can't survive out there." His eyes cast towards the open woods beyond, and her friend has never once looked so small in his life.
"I can teach you." She says it before she thinks. Phanuel's eyes come back to her. "I've traveled alone, and I don't... I don't want to go with them either. I want to travel again... I want to see the world and I want to see if my familys safe." I want to go with you, goes unsaid, but they hope it comes across in their wide eyes and fracturing expression. And there's so many things she can show him, so many wonders beyond the once safe borders of Aryn. She knows he'll love it, knows he can adapt to.
"You... You want me to come with you?" And of course he'd think that, after everything. As if she could leave her best friend behind.
"Please." They liked being alone, once upon a time. Because being alone was free, not a single wolf to tie them down or drag them alone. No one to give her orders, no one to fight with or get angry at. But what she has here, this friendship, this closeness... She doesn't want to lose it. She'll miss having someone to play with, someone to tease and wrestle. She'll miss the bickering and the wit, the dry humor and terrible jokes and an ego the size of an entire territory.
She'll miss his gifts, she'll miss his presence.
She'll miss him.
"Together?"
"...Kay."

Working on this piece made me, incredibly emotional. The last thing I want to do is retire Lorarii, but currently I just, don't have anywhere to take her that makes sense for her. It's with a heavy heart that i'm choosing to retire her, but I think it's for the best. She won't be alone though! The pair of them will be traveling together, as there's a whole new world for Lorarii to show Phanuel. I promise they'll be safe y'all, and maybe one day we'll see them in the domain again <3
Special shout out to everyone in Aryn who played a role in Lorarii's story, you guys were awesome, and getting to create Lorarii and watch them grow as they interacted and slipped into pack life was just incredible. Lora, nor myself, will ever forget Aryn and the great times we had here <3
Lorarii retires with 67 bones, Tadhg is also retiring, lost amongst the flooding. Hopefully he'll find his way back to his friend.
King did the amazing sketch, while I did the rest. Special thanks to PaperElk was well for giving me pointers on the background, this piece couldn't have happened without the both of you <3
