About one year ago I became fairly sick, and it took some time to find out that I had cancer in a couple of areas. During that time I lost a considerable amount of weight and my hands began to shake uncontrollably - not so good for drawing or eating soup, ha! My signature became unrecognizable, just a shaky bit of a scribble. What I missed most was being able to draw anything with some semblance of control, ugh! I made up my mind to start practicing the basics again - circles, ovals, straight lines, etc. To say the least it was a difficult struggle, and after many weeks I got to the point where I could regain a small bit of confidence every now and then. My wife kept after me and urged me to continue drawing no matter the outcome. I was also encouraged by seeing the work of two friends here on DA, Lina Reed and Flyin' Freak, who are both fine artists.

I decided to try a subject where the casual observer wouldn't notice my shaky hands and many mistakes. Found this old engraving and figured it would cover up many of my jittery strokes and so I started this project after almost a year of producing absolutely nothing. So here we have the final product, (after a considerable amount of errors) my scratchy, wobbly rendition of this parrot.

So, I hope to continue in this direction, no matter if I can gain full control or not. I know it will be an uphill battle but I think I'm ready for the challange..? Optimistically, I hope some of you might enjoy my attempt at drawing again. Many thanks to all our members who continually inspire me!
