Why hello there, it's-a me, your good old fiend Waluigi

Fleur de Lis and Applejack have kind of a strange background.

Fancy Pants was happly married to Red Loveshine, a unicorn mare who's talent was organizing weddings and other matrimonial affairs. They lived a happy life, until Loveshine unfortunately died in the birth of Fleur de Lis, leaving Fancy Pants as a single father. However, instead of mourning his dead wife, Fancy Pants immediately steered himself and stepped right up to raise Fleur in the best way he could. Soon Fleur became Fancy's little star, dotting on her and taking her everywhere he goes, and to his delight, she loved him the same way as well, often voluntering herself to go with him on walks around Canterlot as she grew. Really, they're the perfect father and daughter relationship, full of good parental love and playfull banter. Fancy Pants was one of the only unicorns in Canterlot willing to show parental love in way "commoners" do, and many other Canterlot unicorn parents either scoffed or outright turned their noses at them. It's not like they cared, father and daughter were just having fun going around. Of course, he had to chide her sometimes (specially about openly flirting with random ponies), but it was forgoten on both parties not so long after. Really, everything was perfect as it can be in the conditions they were in (Loveshine's death).

And then Applejack stepped into the picture.

The first contact Fleur had with Appejack wasn't that much of a deal. It was mostly Fleur flirting with Applejack and Applejack just doing her job (delivering Zap Apples to a Canterlot restaurant that Fleur happened to be in). After being completely ignored, Fleur took it upon herself to flirt with Applejack as much as possible, either to annoy her, or to genuinely be noticed by the hulking earth pony, not even Fleur herself knew.

After a good while of one sided flirting, Applejack finally got fed up and went "Ya like me? Fine then, why don't we hav'a date and see what yer flirting is about?"

And Fleur was rendered speechless, but accepted the passive-agressive invitation to a date anyways.

One date turned to two, and three, and six in such rapid succession that both parties were kinda weirded out. They just worked. It was like they were two puzzle pieces that fit so perfectly that there was little to no space between them.

Which means that Fleur didn't spend as much time with Fancy anymore. He was sad, devastated even. His little girl found somepony else to walk around with. Always Applejack this, Applejack that. He felt like a bystander in his daughter's life.

But he wouldn't allow his moping to drag her down, so he put on a simley face and kept encouraging Fleur and being pleasant to her date, until Applejack whisked him alway and told him to spill the beans, because someone so family oriented as Applejack just knows when something's up with a family member, and Applejack considered him a family member either he liked it or not.

So he did that. He spilled everything for her. Loveshine's death, raising Fleur alone, the Applejack problem, etc. After what would be more than 20 years, he was allowed to grieve. And boy, did it feel good.

Then Applejack called Fleur and they sorted things out. Fancy's fear of being left behind was squashed in hilarious fashion by Applejack saying "Well yer could come live with us, we apples stick togheter".

And boom Fancy was in a train with his daughter to live with his daughter-in-law and her family, that he supposes he could call his family too.

Fleur and Applejack have 5 foals and Fancy Pants is having the time of his life dotting and spoiling on his grandkids while Fleur has her various perfume stores across Equestria and Applejack coordinates the farm. They like their lives and I'm sure Loveshine is happy where she is too.
