Ofc i will make sure to anyone who asks to refer to you and of course not anything commercially. If not, totally cool, will find something else to put on there ^^

What it boils down to: people stole Canis art, took credit for it, applied it to a weapon, put it on the workshop, and Valve believed them and they got payed. Canis did the right thing.

BTW, this design is pretty sick. As a stand alone and on the gun.

Good joke comrade, what do you say I break into your house and steal your property? Just because you found something on the Internet, that doesn't mean you can use someone's art, wreck it, and claim as own.

its not about being a faggot , its about onwership . what if you draw a masterpiece on the internet and then i use that art to make a csgo skin without give you any credit? how do you feel for that? i got all the credit and money from making the skins , you got nothing..

Wow, you're so nice. Would you be fine with me stealing your money so long as I used it on Counter-Strike? No? I still stole your money? And it's wrong? Wow, amazing. I would never have guessed. And the word "faggot" has become much more of an insult to the person who uses it than the person who receives the supposed "insult". With the exception of YouTube and COD, of course, which you should probably go back to, the community is much more accepting of ****-measuring contests of "creative" "insults" there.

I see a uniform behavior here where the CS community is understandably upset, then the people who knew the piece as the original get overtly defensive and rant about every bit of behavior from the upset CS players and use it to derogate the "gamer" demo-graph, or just deduce it to "Counter-Strike players."  Firstly, I feel I should inform you that actually caring about the words an individual decides to use is something that will never do you any sort of favor in life, and the word "faggot" isn't used strictly by CS players.  In fact I can't really name an instance from the past month or so where I heard someone use it.

Onto my point of argument, I think you fail to realize the fact that countless people, who had no idea the item was copyrighted, lost hundreds of dollars in the game's micro-economy due to the items' removal.  Yes the artist lost money too, but at least the artist will get the lost profit returned.  Everyone else's investments are gone for good.

1) The words one uses to present an argument can wildly affect the argument (and its acceptance). For example, say I wanted to tell you to buy CS: GO (which is a good game, I'm a Silver 4 in it myself). I could say "You should buy this game. I think you would like it" or "Buy this game, ***hole." See the difference there? Hell, even if I said "You should buy this game. I think you would like it, ***hole," it paints a very different picture just from the inclusion of one word.

2) When did I say the word "faggot" is used strictly by CS players? I even state in my original comment that it's usually used by YouTubers and COD players. You may notice that COD players and CS players are almost mutually exclusive.

3) The M4A4 Howl and the Howling Dawn sticker have both been replaced in all accounts that have them by a Valve-made alternative (which is a competent alternative; some even like it more), which are limited in quantity (as compared to the theoretically infinite, though still rare, original), which jacked up their prices by 3x in the case of the gun and 5-12x in the case of the sticker. However, fact is that every one of Sic's items were removed from the Huntsman case and Community Sticker Capsule 1, but based on the fact that I still have an unchanged version of one of those items and on Steam's legal agreement to not take any items from the players under nearly all circumstances, all of those other items were kept in the game, with the exception that they, too, are now limited in quantity due to their removal from cases, capsules, and drops. This jacks up their prices by over 100% as well. So, no, no one "lost" any of their money. Even if they did lose money, though, it's not the artist's fault. The artist was stolen from, plain and simple, and so the artist reported it. While I doubt making CS: GO community items is a lucrative business, the contributor would likely make at least a few hundred dollars over the lifetime of the Huntsman case, money that would rightfully belong to Sic (who was unaware of the copyright and who modified the art into the texture) and CanisAlbus. Therefore, theft. If it's anyone's fault on any (very likely non-existant) loss from this, it's either Valve's fault (and yet they handled this crime the best they possibly could), or Auzzii's (the one who stole the art) fault. Since Auzzii is the original thief, blame him for all supposed loss of money. He is, after all, a thief.

From a DeviantArt standpoint, this is some very good artwork. Also, me approve of Gimp
It's incredible though how much crap has been turned over in the CS:GO skin economy, which I coincidentally am involved in myself.

The new M4A4 Howl price in the market has basically tripled, so basically whoever sold their skin before the scandal got stiffed

Apparently, many talented artists that design skins in the Workshop have been banned, so their 100+ skins have 0 chance of being added to the game now.

I guess it's what they deserve though, the wolf DID look quite nice in game, so I applaud you for that.
(Also, more popularity to your drawings I gesh)

You're calling them a dick, yet you're saying that it doesn't even look good.

They didn't have the rights nor permission to infringe upon Canis' design and make money off of it. The people you should be directing all this anger to are the ones who infringed in the first place. Not the people who got up and did something about it.

Then again, I'm not surprised to see a CS player coming in here and making an ass out of himself. I've seen what CS does to people. It's not pretty.

I understand why the artist would want these items taken down but to be fair their reaction was a bit irrational in my opinion.

The artist could've contacted the submitters and notified them that stealing work is not cool, something could've easily been worked out in regards to monetization and seeing how Valve has handled matters like these in the past I'm sure that the artist would receive all money that was made on the sales of the item and the submitters would be punished (2-5 year community+workshop bans).
But instead they went straight to the DMCA take down notice, which is actually a very extreme course of action considering that the Steam Community includes the Steam Workshop and the "Friends" system.  If the take down had gone through everyone on Steam would lose everyone on their friends list, and instantly loose touch with anyone they didn't have alternative means for communication with, and that alone would effect millions of people instantly.

I understand them being upset and wanting the item out of the game, but it doesn't look like they even attempt to contact neither the submitters 'nor Valve.

I think it's also worth mentioning that of the two submitters, one of them had been lied to and was completely unaware of the copyright infringement. (The other claimed that they drew it, he did all of the actual work needed to get it in the actual game, and I wouldn't be surprised if he handled the various amounts of wear on the sticker as well.)

Blackheart2005 In reply to Bucky21659 [2014-06-14 01:03:58 +0000 UTC]

I have two words to respond to this. "Due Diligence".

Valve didn't do it, so Canis sent the DMCA takedown notice.

Sic didn't do it, so he got banned along with Auzzii. Both of which were already profiting off of Canis' design. I wouldn't contact the people plagarizing my work either. I wouldn't even wanna talk to them. I'd just go straight for the DMCA route. Just like Canis. She's not wrong for doing this.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Bucky21659 In reply to Blackheart2005 [2014-06-19 18:17:38 +0000 UTC]

I don't think you understand how any of this works, or understand my point.
I wasn't suggesting they contact the thief directly, merely report it to the Steam Community moderation staff and had things sorted without drawing all of the unnecessary attention.

What "Canis" did was basically if I went and filed a DMCA takedown on DeviantArt because I actually was the one who made your profile picture.
No, DeviantArt wasn't responsible, but I went and filed a DMCA complaint on DeviantArt anyway.
Hope that clears things up.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Blackheart2005 In reply to Bucky21659 [2014-06-20 05:46:45 +0000 UTC]

It doesn't. Legally, Valve is the one responsible for the plagiarism. In your analogy, DeviantArt would be legally responsible for the plagiarism as well.

Why do you somehow believe that Canis should have personally went after the thieves? They didn't ask her if they could use the design, just took it without asking. Why do you think Canis should attempt to contact two complete strangers who plagiarized her artwork?

If someone stole a physical item from your home and you found out who it was and it was a complete stranger, would you confront them directly or call the police? I think we both know the answer to this one.

FrayedEntity In reply to notafact [2014-06-12 06:48:44 +0000 UTC]

All I simply did was notify the original artist that their work had been stolen, I think Canis has full rights to know, I didn't tell her to report it, I just let her know that her work has been used without permission on a place where it is sold for money, she'd even deserve to know if the work was stolen to not make money, so I don't see why you're having a rant at me for being respectful.

the problem is actually stirring up alot of crashes and rants here and there (esp in Steam and DA). but in my POV; both Sic and his comrades (the artists of the Gun and sticker) as well as her are innocent.. it just happened at the wrong time at the wrong way

we are (and they are) both fellow artists as well
