I got kind of bored and I was waiting to hear back on commissions, so I doodled this babe up in the meantime :v He's shamelessly based off of the gross lil buggo "cymothoa exigua", which is an icky bug that likes to crawl into the mouths of fish and replace their tongues!

This babe does pretty much the same thing, tbh, though his relationship with his host is more..symbiotic? Once he makes his entry into a host, he quickly burrows himself into the tender inside flesh (yum!) and uses the little bulbs on his shoulders and head to latch into the blood supply, while simultaneously tapping into the nervous system of the larger maggot-y host to control it, making the host little more than a tasty meat puppet for the parasite babe! However, this is actually not all that bad for the host, because by nature, they are nearly completely mindless and without a parasite within them to help control them, they are completely at a loss and are unable to hunt for food.

The parasite therefore uses their specialized sight organs to detect prey, which is swiftly devoured by the purely carnivorous main host, yum! However, the skin of the parasite is very fragile, and they are unable to regulate their own temperature that well, so without a nice warm and moist host to live in, they will dry out and die quite quickly

Since they go back so far evolutionary-wise, both species have adapted some fun adaptations to each other, such as the host developing large blood-filled external sacs which the parasite can tap into in times of starvation so that they remain alert and healthy, while the parasite can harden the iron within the blood to dangerous degrees, thereby making a weapon out of their own meals. They are actually freely able to secrete their blood meals out of their hands and tails, and will occasionally launch surprise attacks during a hunt by whipping out a hand full of daggers, how fun!

I'm unsure if I'll be making more of these, but they were really fun to do! ;v I was originally going to keep these babes, but I think I might pop 'em up for offers, if anyone is interested?
