Its silly.

It makes sense in Halo 4 with the war games simulations. It makes sense in Halo 3 and Halo Reach if you do Spartans vs. Elites.

I believe them brutally murdering each other with various dangerous weapons is "practice"

At least Halo 4's multiplayer will make some sense.

Why? Sinse when was multiplayer connected to the story?

Its all theoretically connected to the single player.

Only the places. Elites and Spartans never fought against other elites and spartans.

Halo: Reach's multiplayer is more connected at least.

You could go as far as say they're virtual reality programs or somesuch...

You could say that the multiplayer portion of the game is a virtual reality training program which allows the users to fight and kill without actually killing anyone in real life.

You have to remember the Inserectionalists (spelling?). Then again they wouldn't be Spartans.

Thats the Multi player part of the game, In the missions that follow the actual story line you fight against covenant and flood.

I know, I understand the concept of a multiplayer game, its just ask "What if this was real." the entire situation would then become very silly.

or it could all be a holigraphic training simulation for the Spartans to hone their skills lol, but yes I get your point :]

It has actually been a long time since I've actually played Halo 3, but I think it might be interesting if there was a Multiplayer level that would feature various platforms and "obstacle courses" over a very large chasm. Like really basic texturing to make it seem like a simulation.

Technically they only kill each other in multiplayer mode (along with elites), and that's not really "in story" considering Master Chief's the only one left (not withstanding the two female ones from DOA and that EU novel).

Not to mention the Spartan-III's from the Ghosts of Onyx. Sorry if I spoiled that... :/
But yeah, I sometimes like to look at what would it be like if the multiplayer was an actual part of the story game (as it lasts LOOOONG after the actual story).. Spartans discriminating each other based on armor color seems a bit silly to me, that's all.

Didn't the Spartan III's have different armour though? And technically it's armour colour, so its more like they're wearing a uniform. Before the Covenant came along they were probably going to be used against other humans anyway...

Think of it this way, in HL2 Deathmacth everyone has Freeman's gravity gun. In TS3 people from completly different points in time are killing each other for no reason. As Team Fortress 2 realised, there's not point in trying to justify it.

The Spartan III's armour was a low-cost alternative to the MJOLNIR powered armour, the SPI. Rather than raw power, the S-IIIs would have to rely more on stealth and sheer numbers. Cheap and less bulky, the S-IIIs used large-scale invasions, and suffered heavy casualties.

Also, the SPI 'is' similar to the EVA armour in Halo 3, but the differences outweigh the similarities.

A side note, but yes, the SPARTAN-II project's original objective was to counter the insurrectionist conflict the UNSC had been dealing with before the Human-Covenant war.

Yeah, Spartan III's had armor with helmets similar to the EVA armor in Halo 3.

And good point there. Except there are other multiplayer games like Battlefield Bad company or 007 Nightfire where either they had a story to go along with the multiplayer, or they all had reason to kill eachother. So I guess you can either way on this subject, lol :3
