Harley was sitting in the jockey room at Gulfstream park, readying to take his mount on Fighter for the Pegasus Turf when the tiny little 10" TV screen in the corner cut to Sunland Park racing on TVG. His breath held, he'd nearly forgotten!! Standing in her newest silks, looking perfectly pissed about it was his Grade 1 winning QH Kate, the mare had "new" ownership though and wasn't wearing the blazing orange silks she was known for. Instead the owner was listed as "Big As Quarter Horses" and the silks were incredibly ridiculous. White with polka dots in bright ass colors, the signature that Harley seemed to be associated with most. Because well, he enjoyed them.
Tugging out his phone he sent a text to Bea with Iron Horse Stud and Ben with Red Star Stables, "The girl is going to post!!!" The rag tag team had come together for the Quarter Horse side of things after a conversation a few months before, all three teams had some nice horses already but they weren't doing too much with them. And after Bea and Harley going into business with Blue Hen it just made sense ot add something else right? Harley was trying to make a name for himself, out of the saddle at least, and he was excited about working with his new partners. Of course it was taking most of his time, between riding and training, and the business end..thank god Bea knew the ins and outs of that or he'd be drowning. Instead he got to work on the bloodstock and racing side more which suited his little brain.
Pulling on his boots he watched as they loaded, Kate looked keen ears pinned back and focused on the track before her. Richie looked calm, which was good, it was only his third or fourth race and he was still an apprentice. The tv crackled and Harley's heart caught, would he miss the race?! Static threatened to overtake the image but there she was, striding out running hard and fast over the Sunland track, little lines of color dashed across the screen fighting each other as dirt flew. It was just so hard to see, he couldn't read the bottom scroller telling him the time, and then he heard the call for riders to go to the paddock.
Putting his helmet on he took a breath, "Come home safe and fast girl." And then out he went, turning his back as they came to the finish line. He'd find out after the races, his phone would tell him one way or another but for now he needed to focus on the horse he had to ride in one of the biggest races of their careers.

I MISSED MY QUARTER HORSES. GOTTA GO FAST. Also welcome to the world Big As Quarter Horses and their fabulous new silks. Here it comes, the brain child of the babs of FHF, IHS, and RSS. Be afraid. Be very afraid.
Also if you want to see it without the crappy paddock TV screen finish, Shue Fly Futurity G3 noscratchyscratch
