________

It was the morning of the next leg of HCL and Cecily was already in the barn tending to her faithful stallion. Leche had been doing well with his new training, and she was confident that he'd do his best today. After all, he alway did his best, and with everything that had happened to her in the last few weeks the stallion had been even more responsive to her. "Hey sweet boy." She whispered softly as she placed their foreheads together, there was a little nicker and he closed his eyes. "Think we're ready for today?" Those ears flicked and he blew softly before nibbling at her shirt. Cecily wasn't sure she was ready for today, but it was here and they needed to get it done.

Shifting backwards she rubbed his cheek and smiled, "Guess I should start getting you together then huh?" Another nicker and this time he raised his head and tossed it before squaring up his stance, he was 100% ready to show off his pony power and she had to laugh at him. But soon enough she was slipping on his last bit of tack and leading him out of stall towards the warm up arena. As she walked she could see movement to her side, but she refused to look. The journalists just wouldn't let her be, trying to pry the story of what really happened inside the diplomatic house, of how exactly she got her injuries. And just what kind of man her stepfather really was.

Leche could feel the tenseness on the end of the line and he blew hard tossing his head and slowing to stamp his hooves, it wasn't like him to be such a butt and Cecily was turning to fuss at him when he pulled slightly loose from her and reared at the journalists who had gotten too close. A hoof made contact with a camera and sent it shattering across the ground and when he landed on all fours he was indignant and blowing, ears pinned and tail hitched up. "Leche, buddy, come on. They aren't worth it." The normally calm stallion huffed one more time and moved with his owner, though those brown eyes kept a careful watch just in case someone else came a bit too close.

Once they were in the workout arena Cecily eased into the saddle, there was a wince and she absently rubbed her ribcage from where she fell down the stairs. Leche shifted beneath her, kicking out a leg and resting. They still had some time before they needed to fully warm up so both of them were just relaxing, watching those before them get their synergy going and waiting. Reporters weren't buzzing in her ear, it was just her and her horse and nothing else mattered.

Finally it was there turn and they warmed up with ease, just getting a few things under their belt before they moved to the arena. Taking a deep breath Cecily moved sitting forward and urging Leche to canter, they were moving better slower than Buyeo. Their strides slightly longer than before, as they came around Leche didn't even offer to lurch forward like the pocket rocket he was. Instead they came to the first jump with even measured strides and when he jumped he jumped easily, flinging himself high upwards and then forwards to land with an even and measured bounce.

From there Cecily focused on using their speed when she needed to, opening him up and letting him race to the finish like he was running on a racetrack. When they were done but Cecily and Leche were drenched in sweat, and she just leaned into his neck breathing hard, the pain in her side from the bruised ribs and the effort of jumping was more than overwhelming. For a few strides she leaned there, eyes closed holding onto his neck weakly just trying to breathe and then Leche stopped, ears flicking forward and he felt her slip from his back to collapse into the sand just outside of the arena. Cecily was unconscious from the heat and the pain and her tiny stallion was beside himself trying to keep as many people away from her as he could, whinnying and moving around to block them from her until someone gripped his reins and forced him away.

For the Commentators:

  • Cecily is riding with a lot of bruising on her face, that she's attempted to cover with makeup.
  • The uncomfortable look from Buyeo is still there, but she's got her wits about her more and is better seated in the saddle.Towards the end she's likely to look pale though, and have a lot of sweat going on.
  • The two have worked hard since Buyeo, and while Leche likely will be tired at the end of the course he's able to handle it much better.
  • His style has also been tweaked a bit, so he's a bit slower than his blazing fast self (note: he's still on the fast side) but he's obviously been working on his footwork and jumping because he will be able to handle the big jumps much easier.
  • Leche is a little fussy this round, especially if anyone comes near him with Cecily around. His overprotective nature kicking in, he just wants her to be safe.

Jumping Style:

After the many knocked bars in Buyeo this pair hit the drawing board. This time, though still fast but more coorinated, Leche is getting in his extra strides and flying even higher than he did before. No longer launching up off his hocks, instead he's properly kicking off and pulling his legs up into a cute little tuck. There may be more strides between jumps than a bigger horse, but he's much more controlled and his stamina seems to have improved greatly.

Comments:

Please for the love of all things holy read the full story, it'll make a lot more sense. However, I'm pleased with this and am glad to really get Cecily's story out there. More will be told later, and trust me this is literally the most PG version of what she's been through. She'll be fine, just a little heat and pain knocking her on her butt. But she'll be back, ship shape, and ready to sail over the biggest fences on the tiniest horse in the next leg of HCL! Also she's super stubborn, so props to her for doing something she probably shouldn't have been doing right??
