Maximus wasn't quite ready to compete last year, but this time around Chase is confident that all their training will pay off!
I wanted to focus on the facial expressions and body language to portray the story and bond between rider and mount. It was a really fun exercise! I looked at a lot of Disney horse facial expressions for inspiration, and I'd say Maximus qualifies as a proper Disney steed. XD (Apart from the actual Disney horse named Maximus lol)
The final panel is a reference to their adventures on the hiking trails when he was just a Ponyta. fav.me/dbak8fd Chase is stronger than he looks and can still lift his horse for a victory hug at the end of the race~
