Just a little model sheet I threw together for an Azumanga Daioh comic I’m playing around with. I don’t want to give anything away, but we’ll just say they’re on another of their summer vacations. You may notice Kagura’s omission. I feel bad about leaving her out, but it just worked out that way for the storyline.The model sheet isn’t much more than a cleaned up sketch, and as such it’s hardly very refined. It was conceptual rather than artistic. I did rather like Tube-Top-Tomo, however.

I keep spotting this in my Google Image searches. For such a simple drawing ('simple' as in B&W character sheet), it's a standout.
It helps, of course to know the characters well.
I like the way you've put your own stylistic 'stamp' onto them, while retaining their immediate recognisability. well done.

I actually need to redo this model sheed something terrible. I put it together really fast as a rough reference and really never cared for how it turned out. But it served it's purpose as a guide for other Azumanga Daioh images (some not posted because they're part of an unfinished story).

Thanks. Actually, I've been meaning to redo the model sheet since I didn't do a very good job of rendering them. It was mostly just a quick sketch as reference for other drawings. What possesed me to post the model sheet is still a mystery.

If it's a summer vacation picture, and Chiyo is happy and smiling, then Miss Kurosawa should be in the picture, because Miss Yukari obviously didn't drive Chiyo there...

Thanks! Unfortunately I haven't finished the comic yet, but it is on my "stack of stuff to work on when I get some time" pile on my desk. Actually, in the months since I started it (the first page is done, anyway) I've actually loosened my style a bit, so I'd have to start over anyway.

I've been playing with a new drawing of the gals, but so far I've been pretty distracted with day-to-day stuff. It's in the stack of "must work on soon" sketches on the drawing table.

You should do all of the 'main' characters!
Sakaki, Chiyo-chan, Tomo, Kagura, Osaka, Miss Yukari, Miss Niyamo, Yomi, Kaori(n), and maybe even add Kimura (the creepy male teacher). HEY! You could maybe do a b/w comic scene with all of them being frieaked out by/mad at Kimura! XDDDD

They're really cute! Being fond of the bookworm type myself I was particularly drawn to the girl on the far right. There are a lot of little details that are fun to look over. Thanks for sharing!
The Azumanga Dioh sheet is a little rough, mostly because I only intended it as a personal guide for a story I was/am working on with them. I oposted it as an after-thought.
