After 17 years, I had to say goodbye to my precious boy Moe this March. I miss him terribly...but I thank God for every moment he was with us. I haven't worked seriously with colored pencil for a while, but I needed to make this...Started 3/7/20 and finished 7/3/20, the drawing took me a total of 65 hours and 20 minutes--by far the most complex piece I've ever done.
He loved Christmas lights; every year I'd pull them out and plug in every strand, and he'd come "help" decorate by laying on them. Probably because they were warm. I chose this picture, knowing it would be a huge technical challenge for me, because those are some of my favorite memories. Prismacolor pencils on heaven knows what type of paper (heavily textured, which was a mistake), 2020. 16x20"
