Hey, sorry for the delay- haven't been on much lately. The straps that hang down are called the ejection harness. Lucas and company piece-mealed the uniform from a mix of WWII and Vietnam-era parts and equipment. The harness is a take-off of the WWII American paratroopers.

That is what I thought they were for.  They shouldn't be that loose though (in real life, not cosplay).  I was Airborne in the Army and we were always told to keep those straps tight because when that parachute opens those straps will snap up to your groin.  If they are loose you might get something pinched off.  lol!

Of course in Star Wars they may be ejecting in space, so that really doesn't apply.

That is a great outfit.  Good attention to detail.

Thanks! I am getting it done a piece at a time, as time and money affords! (and I thought this was going to be one of the SIMPLER movie costumes to recreate!)
