By 2401, Starfleet once again changed it's uniforms and rank insignia; returning to the all-in-one system similar to 2385 and returned to the simple division colors of the 2360's. With the advancement in quantum technology, the new commbadge also functioned as personal transporters and also projected a holographic display interface that allowed it's wearer/user to access the ships computer systems. Civilian's aboard starships wore a silver badge but their access was restricted. Also the "Red Squad" program was no longer considered an elite cadet training course, but rather now part of the regular academic and training courses at the Academy. In addition, Cadets 1st Class had the option of finishing out their training either at Starfleet Academy or be stationed in field as a provisional officer at Starbases or abord Starships.
