Didn't the Swedes get their asses kicked at Poltava?

Aye, they did. I wanted to draw some kind of 'last stand of the Swedish foot guard' or something but it came out a bit more generic.
Also EXPLOASIONS!! and thanks for the fave.

You really need to do more of the Caroleans.

Maybe eventually.
Thanks for the watch.

I love the hectic sense of confusion! also really feel the front line almost flinching backwards as the cavalry approaches!

Thank you! At this point, there's little left of any (front) lines though.

I love the detail in the face of the guy in the left corner, and also how you capture the action/movement as well as the potential energy here.

Ah, all the wait is more than compensated by this artwork! It has dynamism, drama of the moment and the pose of the soldier on the left, drawing his sword, is completely badass! Well done!
I also noticed a small detail that is bugging me, the shoulder strap of the lad on the far right imho is way too far from the collar. It should support the leather pendant from "sliding down" so the pendant should be placed beneath, between the strap button and the seam on the arm. In case the soldier put on his leatherworks in a hurry and had no time for buttoning the strap - then the pendant should cover the strap entirely. However such a tiny detail does not affect my general opinion - you get a well-deserved fave!

Thank you!
Well, it seems you're right. I vaguely remember seeing a reference picture of a Swede with the pendant between the end of the shoulder strap and the collar, like in this drawing, but I can't remember where I've seen it. And looking through my main reference book confirms everything you say here.

I love that battle. It was the time for a rising Russia during that century.

Indeed, it really became a power to be reckoned with from then on.

Russians! Doorgh! *shakes fist in a 1950s TV minor annoyance gesture*
Really epic picture!
The bloke on the left really does look splendid. This picture makes me want to do early modern stuff too.

Thanks! I wasn't sure what to draw for a background (it's in the open field anyway), so I drew some clouds of dust and explosions...

See? Even if sketchy, the background helps a lot! The characters looks particulary good, especially the swede on the left and the charging russkies!

Thanks; In a picture like this, a background is quite essential.
