Greg, after viewing your work over the last while and learning bit about star trails ... I decided to venture out and try this myself now t hat it is summer here. For the first attempt, I did 74 x 25 second exposures from a dock. Now I too got a boat coming home late at night in a couple shots, but was able to correct post processing. I also used the Star Trails software you had suggested. So thanks for you past help as it helped give this a go and actually did alright for the first time out there. The mosquito's got the best of me too ...

Now I want to go out, find a better dark sky and give the milky way a try. Just have to figure out how ...

Great to hear that you got out and had a go at some star trails mate.  Yeah mosquito's are an ever present issue in the warmer months.  I'll have to check out the pic..........

I can assure you that yes it is natural in that everything in this image is from real shots taken from the same location with the same equipment at the same time. But what is "Natural" with a startrail image. You certainly don't see this with your own eyes. You are capturing the motion of the stars as they move across the sky. You either do one really long exposure, or you do as I have here and take one image after the other and then stack them together. The foreground does not change. Only the stars positions. To learn more about how to do startrails read this [link] and check out [link]
