Personally, I'm a fan of NiGHTS. To be honest, I like pretty much everything Sonic Team do, but with Sonic, it's a combination of game saturation and - generally speaking! - a slightly toxic fanbase.

The only Sonic characters I accept is Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy and Eggman/Robotnik.
Everybody else do not exsist for me.
But I prefer Mario(and I respect Sonic).

Wow, that's a pretty pure standpoint - respect to you! Personally speaking, there was a time when I didn't even accept Knuckles - but I'm not really a Sonic fan anymore, so my opinion doesn't really count for much. And, I'm with you - I prefer Mario too.

I honestly find Yuji Naka one of the biggest hypocrites amongst game developers. He condemned Sonic SatAM mostly out of envy, yet he was largely responsible for the fuckup that was Sonic 06

Keep in mind that most of those fucking characters were made as jokes to the recolour Mary-Sue brigade you mention. And they are starting to outnumber and BECOME that Mary-Sue brigade. Besides, looking at all this now, he'd have been dead years ago.

The bottom line is that there are a lot of ridiculous, dime-a-dozen Sonic fan characters; I'm not saying they all are, but that's the case to such an extent that people see the humour behind the piece. If people were saying 'What?', it would be different, but even Sonic fans tend to like it (generally speaking).
Besides, I don't push it down people's throats. It's not like I'm actively seeking people out and mocking them; it's my opinion, and it's in my gallery. People have a right to disagree with it, but by the same token, I have the right to express mine.

If the target audience have any wits about them, they'll be able to distinguish between the two - I'm not even a Sonic fan, and I can discern between a decent character and a re-colour. It sounds like the problem is not just the characters themselves, but also the people who can't recognise quality design.

I agree, a lot of people in the sonic fandom have recolors and marysues. Or recolor-sues. But not all of them are... not all of them are crappily written weirdos who act the same as an official and have all of the official character's powers, despite hating them and not being related to them. Not all of them are terrible, though I do agree that a lot of them are -- and I'm in the fandom! But not all of them are like that.
