This picture to me embodies hope, specifically active hope. Although the candle casts a serene glow that both calms us and warms the water's surface, it also brings to light a feeling of urgency. The inevitable burnout of the flame and the impending night heightens our awareness of the senses and begs the question of "how can we move forward from here?". Whether "here" refers to the water's edge, a psychological space of pain, or the situation of our times…Whether "here" is simply the binary of "there", a concept used to locate us within a larger web of interconnectedness.

The canoe paddles symbolize teamwork and strength, the coming together of people and communities to navigate the darkness together. Only through coming together can we save our planet and build a more sustainable future.
