Description A few days ago I had a “mail conversation” with my friend about digital art. It might be because we share the same mother tongue that we use to have these talks. I was saying that definitively digital is nor for me. I was also having a talk with my friend We both are very concern about the fact that some persons use digital tools in a not very honest way. I am not saying that digital art is wrong. I am just saying that it is not for me, and that digital artists should be proud of their talent and not pretending anything else. I wonder if I am getting my point. I know some will understand.
Anyway, I am making these 3D drawings 100% just for fun. And I thought “why not?” and here is it, my traditional rendition of a digital image Why not? The truth is that I love this boy.
Like in other cases I used a “tool” in a stage previous to the drawing, but the drawing is made in a 100% traditional way with pencils 6B, HB, and 4H in opalina paper. About 3 hours. I know that I am not the first one who makes a 3D image of PO, but I can see a clear tendency in many 3D artists of making drawings with exactly the same subject as others did. Well, l this was “much about nothing” some might think.

This debate about traditional and digital art is completely valid. I only do traditional art and I usually only favourite traditional art because I know it hasn't being manipulated with some fancy software. I have made a few comments about this in the last few days and I have asked for people to define digital art to me because I'm from the old school and have insufficient knowledge in this department. I don't really like the idea of computer aided art, however I did favourite one piece of digital art just recently simply because the imagination required to develope the piece was fantastic. I love this 3D art by the way! I want to look at more of it, but it's so late and I need to sleep after spending 10 hours on my own piece of art!! Goodnight

We all know that scanners have a mind of their own and that they do what they want on our drawings and paintings. I think that in such cases is fair to use computer programs to make those scanned images look as close as the real ones. But, as you say, that´s quite different from manipulate them to the point they become digital more than traditional. Whether if digital works are going to become a real art, I don´t know. Time will tell, I think. Maybe I´m like Chaplin refusing to use sound on his movies or like Kurosawa, refusing to use colour on his films, but, in the case that traditional should desappear one day, I guess I want to be at least the LAST grestest traditional artist. LOL. I´ll die with the flag of traditionalism on my arms. Thank you very much for commenting on this.

I don't know anything about this guy but he's cute as a button! Well done Carmen!
I know that some people may think that traditional artists are down on digital artists but I hope that they don't assume from your comment that we think that way because if anyone looks in my gallery, it has as many digital creations as I have traditional. The point is that some people are using their digital 'know how' to pass their works off as all traditional when they really are not. I just think as you do, if they are that good at manipulating digital media, they should be proud and display their work as digital not traditional.

Dear, Giselle!! I can´t believe you don´t know about PO!! So you don´t know about his "secret ingredient either!! I wish you will know some day about him. You´ll love him.
It is a general rule of thumb, those who decline what I think are my best tradtional works, are persons who only make digital art. They are so used to those perfect images, that they don´t understand about things of the traditional works like the imperfections on paper for instance.
You know I agree a 100% when it comes of those persons who use digital tools to make their drawings but they sumbit them in "traditional category" just to have a lot of compliments about their "fantastic" works. I am not deniying digital works as art and thats why I have some digital works on my favourites, but... but I don´t like to be treated as if I am blind or stupid. What do you think about this?

I will have to get my hands on the movies, I feel like I'm missing out here, lol.

I'm the same way, I feel so betrayed when I find out that the work I was admiring turns out to be fake. I watch people to learn from them and when I see that they just took a photo and ran it through a filter to make it look like they painted it traditionally I just want to know why???! I just don't see the point of it. Those people who do this have to look at themselves in the mirror everyday and see a loser staring back at them. No matter how many people praise them for their "amazing work and talent", they know it is all lies. How do they sleep? I often wonder what 'creates' these types of people; do they not get enough praise in real life? Are they disturbed? Unloved? Lonely? If only they could believe in themselves and practice a craft they enjoy, after just a short time they would get that wonderful feeling of happiness and satisfaction of having created art and might see that cheating and lying gives only empty praise and unhappiness.

I also feel bad for the hundreds and thousands of people who are kept in the dark believing the art they admire is real art when it is only someone else's art(photo) passed through a filter. It doesn't take much talent to add a canvas texture to a photo. The only "talent" involved is making up all the lies behind the fake art and fake personae they have to build around it all. Sad. Really sad.

It is getting harder and harder to trust that what you are told is traditional really is! I really like it when an artist shows their work station, their tools etc and some wips from time to time. I also like seeing an artist either standing next to their work or actually in the process of painting; I always feel such awe when I see the two together. I realize some people don't want to show their face on the internet and I respect that but why not their tools and workstation? A work in progress on the easel or table? What's the harm in that? Anyway, I could go on and on...You get my drift.

Dear Giselle, I am more than impressed by your words. There is so much truth on each of them. I can´t add more. I only can say I like your passion for truth. It is the first time I "hear" you expressing like this. I wish "they" could "hear" your message too. I can feel how much you love art when you talk about feeling betrayed by those who cheat. I can see how important for you art is. Perhaps art is to them nothing more but a game, just like using the iPad or Nintendo. But, art is part of your life, isn´t it? It is part of yourself, isn´t it? It is your very heart, isn´t it? Thank you very much for sharing it with me. I think you even made me grow with your words.
