Description
Originally his body resembles a suit of armor: that huge breastplate and plumes and all. The way he protects himself, retracting the head, also suggests that he is based on a dark knight. However, Bulbapedia says that his design may be inspired by genies, and I like the idea. Mostly because I prefer anatomy to armor, and if I went with the armored design, he would look like Alphonse Elric painted black The head does look like his helmet a bit, though I was thinking of cat skulls and cyborgs while drawing it. Darkrai doesn't really need a mouth, but it makes him more expressive - I won't draw it when I need him to look sinister and mysterious, assuming that he's able to simplify his anatomy (shouldn't be that difficult for a creature that merges into the shadows). His "wings" (or whatever it was originally) are mostly amorphous and flutter in the wind like a ghost shroud. Such kind of hairline makes his forelock cover one eye or another, depending on the tilt of his head. The hair gets more wispy towards the end, the same is true about his "tail". Darkrai cannot be entirely ghostlike, though: he isn't dark/ghost after all and can be effectively punched in the face like all the dark types XD
