seriously. I'm getting all kinds of ideas now from a race that turns things to stone
on the other hand, I'd image having to face one of these guys would be quite fearsome. A cockatrice is dangerous enough; militarized cockatrices would be devastating.

Indeed, it is unfortunate that a small minority of mythological creatures have been often depicted with anthropomorphism.

Very good.
I remember seeing some cartoon once which featured bipedal intelligent cockatrices. No idea what it was.

well a bit more precise response. You had some neat idea the cockatrice / basilisk is a rather unused mythological creature, also i like that you didnt make that antroporphic version a little less goofy than the the regular cockatrice designs are, he still looks like a rooster but still rather badass. Some nice details on the face also. Hmmit looks a bit like a Croc tho, not sure if thats intendet! still some nice job there! id love to see more incarnations of rareley used mythologiical creatures.
all around nice job on the picture and on the idea !!!

thanks! And yeah, I used the croc plating to fill in the lizard part of the basilisk's body. I'd actually love to do this guy over, since he's looking a little old to me. Any ideas on what i could fix or make cooler?

Cool. *drool* Not often mythological creatures are done justice like this. Great job playing around with making it humanoid and warrior-like too. I could definitely see this being as part of a culture rather than merely a species or a random monster for someone to kill. Oh, so cool. The things your drawings make my imagination do. *cartwheels*

Ooh, very nice.
Are you going to do other mytholgical creatures like this? This one
came out pretty awesome. I especially love the details in the face.

CarolineLaplante In reply to CavyWolfe [2010-05-25 19:51:47 +0000 UTC]
Thanks! I'm glad you like it, the face gave me some trouble, since a tiny change could ruin the resemblance to a rooster.
I wasn't initially thinking of making more, but it's definitely a theme I could continue to draw on. I tend to try to shoot for the less obvious creatures when I pick my themes, so maybe a hydra or something tricky like that (I like headaches)...

CavyWolfe In reply to CarolineLaplante [2010-05-25 20:11:44 +0000 UTC]
Hah, headaches are fun, no?
And if you do continue, less known mythical creatures
would be an interesting theme. I would love to see
your ideas.

I think you'd be able to pull out some kick ass Egyptian ones like Set with your style.
Also the level of detail is impressive, great work as always!
