But I don't care that the facial proportions are off. Realism isn't my cup of tea. Maybe I'll be able to paint this way one day, just like I was suddenly able to paint 'maskuline men'. But I won't push it. If it's time for a change of style it will come by itself.
I used a reference for the snake head, because I have never painted a snake before.
Painted in Photoshop while I had a hell of bellyaches.

Oooh . . . I love the way that you rendered the snake. Such vivid color and realism in this piece, though it maintains the look of paints rather than photo realism.

Das hier ist sogar sehr gut! Eines deiner besten realistishen Werke, ob Du mir das jetzt glauben willst oder nicht! ^^ Ich finde deinen Stil einfach wunderschön! Und auch die Farben sind einfach toll! Schon fast unkonventionell (wenn es so etwas im eingentlichen Sinne gibt). Ich weiss gar nicht was ich eigentlich noch zu diesem Bild sagen soll - ausser dass die Nase wirklich nicht so gross ist. Und selbst wenn - das macht doch erst den Charakter eines Menschen (oder in diesem Fall Dämons) aus, oder?
Auf jeden Fall ein gelungenes Stück Malerei!

he sure was well prepared. he thought of everything, a knife, enough water and food to survive at least a week. a guy in the shop, where he was buying all the stuff for his adventure holidays, was instructing him well. he told him what the must-haves for the jungle are. a waterproof tent, cloths that protect oneself from mosquito bites etc.. a shaver with batteries, a little propane grill and a few magazins are the things he took with him. he really thought jungle would be that easy, the guy in the shopped smiled. honestly he was doing fine during the first night (he practiced how to build up a tent at home.) but he didn't thought the little spiders and snakes to be that annoying. one night (night 4) a mysterious froufrou was to be heard. just another snake, he thought. but this time something else came. a guy who wanted revenge for his brothers and sisters our pseudo-adventurer has killed since he arrived. i am wondering whether a shaver would be enough to cope with him.
interessant und mysterioes, eine personifizierte klapperschlange, recht schaurige idee, wenn du mich fragen solltest. starrter, angsteinfloessender ausdruck seinerseits, wobei ihm die schlange mit ihren roten gift venen in nichts nachsteht. sehr gut gemacht.

Die Story passt wirklich gut zum Bild *g* Erinnert mich an diese alten Gruselcomic Stories. (Wieso fällt mir sowas nie ein? -_-).

The color in this is so lush, and I love how you mix the colors in together. I haven't gotten the hang of that yet. That snake head is awesome, but I love the guy's face. That one dead eye, the horns, his pretty shiny lips...lol. It might not be your style, but I think you did a wonderful job with this.

Thanks ^^ Actually, this is exactly my style (except for the snake maybe. Don't have a 'snake-style' yet *g*). although it's more colorful than my previous pictures. But I'm currently trying to improve with colors ^^.
If it was photorealism it wouldn't be my style. But I can't paint like that anyway and I don't like to be pushed to paint that way (thus my remark ^^).

Aber nu zurück zum Bild. Das linke Auge guckt irgendwie zu sehr aus der Augenhöhle raus, aber das ist vll. so gewollt (?). Sonst ist das Bild klasse. Ich mag Schlangen.

Schööööne Farben. Das ganze hat eine schöne Regenwald-Atmosphäre. Liegt wohl an den saftigen Grüntönen und der wirklich beeindruckenden Schlange.

oh wow, das gefällt mir sehr. Ich freu mich immer wenn Du andere Sachen als Fanart hochlädst (Bitte nicht falsch verstehen, die sind auch sehr gut- aber ich habs nich so mit Fanart 
hmm naja also ich finde mit meinem ungeübten Auge da eine Menge an Realismus drin, vermischt mit deinem Stil- aber man sieht es selbst ja immer anders

Was mir aber an dem Bild ganz besonders gefällt ist die Struktur- ganz dumme Frage meinerseits.. ist das ein Filter? eine eigene Hintergrundtextur? oder einfach Brushes?

Das sind Brushes (Standard in PS7, aber sehr groß eingestellt). Und ich hab dann noch einen ganz leichten Störungsfilter drüberlaufen lassen.

Schön das Du es nicht falsch verstanden hast- viele werden recht sauer wenn man deren "normale" Bilder den Fanarts vorzieht- in deinem Fall schätze ich den speziellen Stil sehr - ausserdem kann ich bei Dir noch was lernen *g*
Oh naja ich hab das 7 nicht (die Leute sind ja begeistert davon) und das 6er mag mein Gt nicht- aber OC hat auch einen solchen Filter- das werd ich mal austesten- dank Dir

Funny that you mention the egyptian-thing, because I browsed through some of my Egyptian treasures books a day before for some reference for another painting ^^

That happens alot to a lot of artist...or so I hear, it seems that they remember images subconciously and put it in their work without even knowing it. XD I guess this is just another case.
