Hi Carrie, I know I already commented on this one a while ago, but seeing it again in my "inbox" courtesy of Digital-Art-Club reminds me what a gorgeous painting you've created! Your use of light and placement of the subject in the scene are exceptional. However, if I can name the elephant in the room, what a sexy and well painted outfit and pose! Bravo

You are welcome! (Love the bear )

Are you working on anything new these days?

Oh, I started a sketch, but am not happy with it. Been lazy lately. I'm going to have to start over on this one... Wish I could draw loose and fast like you but I draw so tight.

Practice, practice, practice! And then take the risk, set aside your pride, and put it out there for critique - you're among friends

Seriously though, over and over I keep hearing the same advise from artists whom I respect. Draw or paint shapes that you see, not the actual subject. That is when you are drawing a face, your left brain tries to interfere and say, "I know what a face looks like," and you end up with an artwork worthy of a 4th grader. Instead, try to forget you are drawing a face, and let your right brain see the beautiful mosaic of shapes of light and shadows. Capture those and you have a great work. A helpful book along these lines with all kinds of great exercises is "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" by Betty Edwards. Any left over Christmas money?

Your lighting and highlights are excellent in this work. I see you use Photoshop and Illustrator - what is your work-flow?

Hi ddillon! Thank you very much! As for my workflow, I mostly use Photoshop and only use Illustrator for a few things here and there. There are some tools in Illustrator that I really like -the blend tool and also the pathfinder palette which lets you break apart and/or merge vector shapes really easy. I'd say Space Cadet is 95% Photoshop, 5% Illustrator with the space ship shapes done in Illustrator. And oh yeah pencil sketch to start with!

Very cool - I too am much more familiar with Photoshop, but have played around a little with Illustrator. One of my goals is to do more with it, but it's down the list a ways. I started doing most of my painting about a year ago in Corel Painter, and then utilize the blend modes and fancy stuff with layers in Photoshop. That revolutionized my creativity - The brushes in Painter are amazing and you can keep files in the native psd format. Anyways, keep on creating! bty, you can call me David
