Ah, thankyou
I've been to some of those places, but not Zion wildlife gardens - I've heard about it and it sounds fantastic, but it stinks to live in the South Island. Although I must say, Willowbank Reserve is wonderful, and the Antarctic centre has some great opportunities for penguins.
Could I bother you with another question, quickly? What kind of camera do you use?
I've always been a traditional and digital artist, but lately I've really gotten into photography. Not that abstract crap they try to make us do at school, (no offence intended to abstract artists. I have no problem with it normally, but when they force us to do it in our photography, it really pisses me off) but real, beautiful, clear photographs like you take.
I know what you mean. Africa is a place I can only dream about right now, but I know that when the opportunity comes, I will jump at the chance to visit wild animals in their natural habitats. Zoos and wildlife parks just aren't the same, they don't give you that magical, breathtaking feeling that you get when you see a wild animal in their natural habitat.

We have a Zoo - a pretty good one at that too. Auckland Zoo is one of the best in the world - and there's no obvious cages - the environment is as close to the real thing as possible with moats and trees and glass partitions!!

Zoo's are great places for wildlife photography, if you cannot get out into the wilds of Africa or other places. There are some tricks though. Try to get an angle where you won't have a background of chicken wire - this way it looks like you've taken the photo in the wild, and not at a zoo. If you can't avoid wire, use a zoom so the background will be blurred, and blur it even more in photoshop later. Try going in early morning, or last hour of daylight - this way the animals will more likely be awake, as if it's too hot- they'll sleep. Take note when the animals are about to be fed, and go to those animals an hour beforehand. They'll be hungry, so they'll be playing up, and you're more likely to get some candid action interesting shots, than the ones where the animal is just lying there asleep!
Hope this helps.

He looks relaxed but still there's like a sadness in there somewhere.. I dont know but that's the exact thing I thought about when I looked at him for the first time.

yes, someone else said he looked like in pain - but I think he's just sleepy. Just prior to going to sleep he had three playful cubs all over him - and you know how tiresome toddlers can be sometimes LOL!!
