Description August 2014
Ink, watercolour, and metallic inks
Based on the Badlands National Park in South Dakota. Definitely one my favorite and most surreal places to visit.
The base layer of the formations at Badlands is Shale. Shale is compromised of many silicon dioxide (quartz) and calcite minerals.
Piece for my structural identity concentration featuring: Silicon Dioxide (quartz) and calcite

I love the creative ways you have used watercolours here. I also really love when someone successfully combines beautiful art with science. Something I've noticed you doing quite often. Geology and rocks a lot more interesting than people first imagine.

I am also curious about metallic inks. Could you explain what they are/how they work/are applied?

Thank you very much! I'm glad you agree with my concept. I honestly just use metallic paint pens and gel pens of assorted brands (sharpie, faber castel, and a few other brands. Since it's broad I just say "metallic inks")
