Description
A few people have been doing this meme (template found here: [link] ) and I thought it would be a fun way to show some love to the artists that inspire me the most. More than anything I'm inspired by other artists, I love art. I love watching people work, I love collecting prints, original drawings and seeing people's individual working spaces. To me comics are a hobby, a job and a passion that I love engulfing myself in.

Here's a little more detail on each artist and why they're included in my influence map, if you haven't heard of any of these artists before I highly recommend you check them out:
J. Scott Campbell - I've always been a fan of Jeff's work, I remember when I was younger walking into comic shops, picking up a comic with a cover drawn by him and putting it down in frustration when I discovered that my interior art wasn't drawn by him as well. I have Jeff and Nei's Fairytale Fantasises 2010 Calendar hanging over my desk and I've already pre-ordered their 2011 one. Can't wait!

Takeshi Miyazawa: - I first discovered Takeshi's work while reading Runaways and Spiderman Loves Mary Jane, two of my most favourite comics. His style is not only adorably charming but proves that you can be a Western comic artist that is clearly influenced by Japanese manga and still be a published professional.

J. H. Williams III - If you haven't read Greg Rucka's run on Detective Comics featuring Kate Kane as Batwoman you really, really should. Rucka's wonderful story is brought to life by Williams' breath-taking, imaginative panels. I don't think I've ever loved the colour red more.

Stephane Roux - I have a soft spot for artists that are good at rendering with real media and Stephane Roux is certainly one of those people. I can't get enough of his Convention sketches and other marker coloured work, his rendering is wonderful and his pin-ups are beautiful.

Nicola Scott - Next to Adam Hughes Nicola is my all-time favourite artist. She's Australian born which is really inspiring to me as an Australian comic artist and I met her last year at a Con. The one thing which strikes me about Nicola's work is that all her characters look different, there's no same-face, different hair-style thing going on. Nicola is a comic artist in the grandest sense, she's a real story teller. She brings her scripts to life with real people and real scenery and my word she draws a hell of a Nightwing.

Terry Dodson - Terry and his wife Rachel (who inks his work) are a super artist team. I could stare at Terry's figures for hours, his women are beautiful and for some reason I'm captivated by the way he draws men's chins.

Amanda Conner - Amanda is one of those artists who I would love to have a cheese-cake pin-up from. her work is sweet, sassy and cheeky. She's brilliant at conveying emotion and it's clear she doesn't take herself too seriously, her work always cheers me up.

Chris Bachalo - I really came to appreciate Bachalo's work while reading X-Men, Age of Apocalypse. He has such a gorgeous way of rendering shadows and using negative space to render a scene. Bachalo doesn't let his simplistic, cartoon-y style stop him from going the distance with extra details.

David Yardin - Another great Australian comic artist and although I haven't had the pleasure of meeting David yet I did speak with him a few years ago via email and he gave me some great advice. He told me about how he started his career and I respect his work ethic and his wonderful art style.

Adam Hughes - Whatever I could say about this man wouldn't be enough, I'm a fan of everything he does. Adam could give me a signed napkin and I'm sure I'd frame the damn thing in my studio.

Jim Lee - I grew up being a fan of Jim's work and he was the first person to ever give me a one-on-one portfolio review. Not only is he an accomplished artist of many years he's an amazing mentor, business man and just such a nice person. I once watched Jim do nearly 100 Con sketches in a day, for free! The man is an art making machine, if anyone is in the industry for the fans it's certainly Jim.

Adrian Alphona - I've been a fan of Runaways since it came out and it was my first exposure to Adrian's art and wow it was an interesting journey to watch him grow as an artist. Looking at his first book alongside his newer work you can really see the leaps and bounds he's taking over the years in improvement.

Ryan Sook - Besides drawing a mean Zatanna, Ryan is a master of drawing as little as possible to show as much as possible. My favourite drawings of his are ones with very few lines that render a face of a scene and wow he draws the most captivating eyes.

Mike Wieringo - I grew up reading Tellos and it upsets me that Mike never got to produce more of his original series. Mike is the perfect example of a comic art having a cartoon-y style but still have an amazing knowledge of anatomy and form. His figures were 'real' even if they had tiny waists and huge heads, his had an ability to push things to the extreme but still make them believable. Love his work, may he rest in piece.
