I would really love to know how you achieve the shadows and shading. I am a budding designer and I have a BS in IT/Web Development but I found a love of designing the art and making that come to life in the web page. If you could stand to mentor someone, I would like to be your apprentice in that area. I can achieve the art but none of the shading. I also know Β and have the whole ADOBE Suite as well as Autodesk and Mudd Box. Β What do you think about my proposal? If you would like to see some of my artwork I would gladly send you in vector and raster. I know you might not have the time but you really would make my day if you decided to become a mentor.

I'm really sorry, but I'm just about to enter college in hopes of finding a mentor myself.
Having access to good tools is great, but I don't think I'm using any revolutionary techniques that have never been explained before.
It's all about giving yourself time to improve, practicing hard and finding your own style.
I'm still quite inexperienced so I don't think I have the qualifications to teach someone other than maybe through the mistakes I've made on my journey.

Maybe we can give each other some advice? I have been to college and graduated and might be able to help you with at least something in that area. I have all the tools, I saved and bought ADOBE Suite a long time ago and pay a little bit for CC. It is a bonus when you become a student to get ADOBE products at a deep discount as a student and then some products are free such as AutoDesk and MuDD Box when you are a student. A big help I found was the tutorials on how to use them at lynda.com. Depending on your degree area, Lynda.com has great tutorials if your going into development or database management.
