That's right... I finally got back to my Zack drawing.
If I didn't get so many notes to work on this thing again, I wouldn't have worked on it yesterday. I'm not into drawing game characters as I used to be, so I'm finishing this 'sooner' just for you who waited for it.
Last update was on May 18th lmfao. I'm so sorry!
This time I worked on the metal of the sword!
This drawing will be my last Final Fantasy drawing. I'm working on it just for you.

It's very challanging to create something that looks like metal. I don't think it worked out the way I hoped it would be, but it got quite close.
Front part was done with an HB 0.5mm mechanical pencil. First I drew the lines in the same direction as the pattern of the metal itself. Then I blended it with a tissue, making small circles so it looks equal.
Then I drew strong and weak lines to (re)create the structure of the sword. That way I got that 'metal effect'.
For the top of the sword I used an H (light parts) and B (sharp dark parts) mech pencil. On the ref the forms weren't quite visible so I just drew what I thought would look well.

This drawing is coming along well and I like it a lot for that, but for some reason the cartilage of his ear bugs me. this may be a thing with the reference picture/zack just having a wonky ear, but I feel like the cartilage that folds into the center of the ear is too sharp and defined on the bottom; like I feel like most ears, when the cartilage folds into the center, starts to flatten out and lead into the cheek/that skin tone at a certain point. I could be wrong though.

Ok... epic, but I saw you wanted comments and I read what you said about the metal on the sword. I think you did a great job, but what I noticed is that the thin line of light metal at the top of the blade does not match the variation of the light metal on the bottom... meaning the middle of the line is not a bright white with the edges being darker. Also there seems to be no variation in the dark metal, but when you go back to the original there does seem to be some. Maybe thats why it still seems off to you?

This is... amazing. His skin tone is so real, his hair is so detailed. The sword really looks like a metal sword, the technique you used was great. I hope it gets finished someday.
