[PERSONALITY]
| +Confident | +Honest | +Forgiving | = Playful | -Ignorant | -Frivolous | -Deflective |
Mina has the grace, beauty, and attitude of a woman who’s never seen a day of hardship in her life. A straight-forward girl, she doesn’t hesitate to shower her peers with (potentially embarrassing) compliments and honest opinions. Her pleasant demeanor and even temperament often spare her from embarrassment and shame, allowing her to forgive others and even laugh at herself when she makes a mistake. Feel free to play jokes on her, because she’ll just compliment your cleverness and return the teasing before ever getting mad.
Because she enjoys a life of ease, Mina will almost always take the path of least resistance. She will never force herself to start or maintain a conversation she doesn’t think will be productive in some way. If she sees someone she’s had bad interactions with in the past, she’ll simply avoid them. This doesn’t mean she can’t genuinely enjoy someone’s company however—far from it. It just means while she likes everyone she meets on an acquaintanceship level, her emotional investment deeper than that is dependent on how beneficial the other is to her in the moment.
Knowing little to nothing of financial or social struggles, Mina is a bit ignorant in conversation and values superficial luxuries, viewing them as solutions to any problem. And while her easy-going attitude is charming in most every day scenarios, it can easily come across as flippant and patronizing during sensitive moments.
Along with this, Mina’s surprisingly closed off when it comes to herself. Although she’ll validate her rather dramatic opinions with equally dramatic stories, they’re rarely about her. If asked, she’ll explain the bare minimum. If pressed further, she’ll deflect the conversation to something unrelated or simply laugh it off.
[HISTORY]
tl;dr: After receiving a letter from Tanith explaining everything in detail, she's come to Toffee Town to convince her to return home.
Born as the last child of a family of wealthy politicians, Mina was easily “the heart” of her family. Sincere, sensitive, and emotionally-driven, she loved all those she came across and was beloved in return. She was close with both her parents and her older half-sister, Tanith. Being born in the same year, it was easy for Mina’s parents to disguise the circumstances surrounding her sister’s birth by claiming them to be twins.
Mina and Tanith spent all their time together, laughing and making up games to entertain themselves during the seemingly endless string of political meetings and parties they were forced to attend. Growing up, Mina spent her time improving her musical and artistic talents with dreams of traveling the world to experience what she could only read about in books. She always admired her sister for her strong opinions and tenacity, though admittedly felt her actions could be extreme.
Throughout their teenage years, she noticed Tanith’s frustration and resulting outbursts growing intense and more frequent. When her sister finally revealed her plan of running away, it didn’t come as a surprise. Mina was torn between her parents and her sister. Leaving would make her best friend happy but it broke her heart to know she would be disappointing those who took care of her for so long. Soon, she began to ask more questions.
Would running away mean leaving everything comfortable about her life? Sure, it was rigid and demanding, but what was running going to solve? Mina knew enough about the hybrids who served their family to know she didn’t want to live like them. Being a little uncomfortable was a small price to pay for safety. Although she sympathized with her sister, she couldn’t understand the depth of her pain. The more the thought about it, Mina realized the truth was that she didn’t want to leave. So, the night she promised Tanith she would leave with her, she refused. But Mina underestimated one thing: Tanith hated living there more than she loved her.
With Tanith gone, something changed within Mina. Her piano slowly gathered dust and the stacks of books near her bed went unread and soon, disappeared altogether.
Years went by. She half-expected her parents to force her to get married as they had tried countless times before, but they didn’t. Something about them had changed too. There was rarely a night where she didn’t wonder where her sister had gone.
It was around this time, Mina came to understand a universal truth: it really didn’t matter what she did with her life if she was secure. Being born into privilege was a rare thing: why throw it away to feel fake fulfillment? It was much easier to just take everything as it came. She convinced herself there was comfort in having everything decided for her. Her new dream is to marry a perfect prince with gobs of money and live the rest of her life without worries. Simple enough.
Until a letter arrived with her name in all-too familiar handwriting.
