Ohhh Beautiful piece. It really shows that you have put time, care and hard work into every part of it. In general I love all things mermaid (so I might be a tiny bit biased ) and this is one of the best Works of this kind I have seen on DA. First, because of the skin. The shading and glare on the scales is almost perfect, and the changes in size and placement help give depth to the whole body and highliht the muscle stucture. Also the chest part kind of confuses me, but in a good curious way because I wonder if it is just part of the anatomy, or is t greenish scaly sin just a suit or a top layer, with the real pale skin under it? Sooo many questions, so many theories, but back to the piece itself. The fins are also very gracefull and delicate, like a Siamese Fighter fish. Same goes for the "hair" and although I personally do not like the concept of armor on mermaids (merpeople in general) I do appreciate all the work you put into this one and it has nice oceanic attributes and details. Maybe the ...staff? she is holding would have looked better if it was not cut off a the top but that is just a minor nitpick, it is your drawing and the composition is not hard on the eyes or incorrect or anything. Finally the bubbles are what gives this the dynamic feel of being underwater and they shading and motion blurr is stellar. Although once again, this is just a nitpk, but the background could have used a bit more work, maybe some rays of light, something so that it does not look so flat and simply as a background and not as the ocean depths But I know how hard it is to after a ton of work still need to put another ton into background and sometimes, it just is not worth it or you just don't feel it there. Overall an amazing work
One more thing, I love the eyes,
And as to your question. Continual work was two days almost non stop when I was working on a large painting and I just could not sleep or rest unless I finished it
And overall the longest I have worked on a single piece have been three years
Oh yeah I forgot, I guess I should mention that I am freshly a member of and I think I should put this into comments I make

Coming from in order to leave my thoughts on this...well on this very beautiful piece!
There is a lot of beautiful detail here, specifically on the texture of the various parts of the mermaid herself. The fins looks beautiful and flowey with lovely translucent sheen and I love the lighting of her scales! You made her scaling texture more realistic by not having it cover her entire body, making it look like only the scales reflecting light are visible. This gives impact to the important parts of her body we need to focus on instead of making the image itself seem busy. The metal texture of her crown and staff are beautifully done and I love her jellyfish like hair! My one critique is on the background itself. I absolutely adore the bubbles (THAT'S SO WELL DONE HOW DID YOU DO THE BUBBLES?!); there look like real bubbles and give a super strong impact. However, the rest of the background seems a bit empty. I would've like to seen perhaps a light watery texture that could also be show on her skin as well. Perhaps streams of light would be another thing to add to the background instead of the water texture. Other than that everything just seems stunning and so well. Well worth the months of work!

This is so wonderfully different and vivid than a lot of digital art I see. It would be something to send up in a time capsule in to space to explain the beauty of the colors blue and green if other planets didn't have those colors....great work.

How did you get the scales to look so lifelike?

If this is your art when you’re feeling rusty. Then your art must be God-level on a regular basis.
Seriously this so beautiful. Love the detail. ^^

1) this looks amazing, the details you put in give it so much life. 2) the most i spend on an image is like, 1 and a half weeks.

I am doing a webtoon, web comic thing. I try to make the designee simple but it also looks good. I just hope the story is running smooth. The fastest I have ever did an image and that I was really proud of is this one:
No joke, I did this in about 5 min. It must have been a good day that day.

oooh ok.
here is the link to the first page. The art style in my opinion get better on the next ones. I honestly want to know what people think of it so far, you know, looks and story progression and such.
