Description I usually don't give a crap and a half about pics of flowers on their own; I've said it before and I'll say it again - most flowers are beautiful, and that means that most pictures of flowers are beautiful, so it's hard for me to really find one that jumps out as awesome.

I had fun with this picture though - these blooms were growing in an incredibly shady spot, with just a bare amount of sun occasionally hitting them through the trees overhanging. It gave the blooms such a spooky kind of lonely feeling.

I think I captured the darkness fairly well here, and for that reason alone I choose to share this flower picture. I love the juxtaposition of a non-funereal flower giving off an air of "oooOOooOoooo."

Taken on an extremely windy day at a local arboretum. And to let you know just how little I generally care about flowers, I have no idea what this kind of flower/bush/whatever even is. If you know, feel free to tell me

I'v killed a plant that looked like that but I havent a clue what it is. (I'm terrible with flowers. give me a spider plant or apple seedling anyday over flowers.)

It seems to be advanrageous for flowers to grow in the shade, they don't die as quickly. nice shot!

I think it looks like some kind of wild rose...

No, no, no, this is clearly a Mongolian Snow Tulip. It is closely related to the peony family and is often mistaken for a peony, but it is very different indeed. The main difference, of course, is that it is carnivorous. Very carnivorous, indeed. They commonly prey upon just about everything from various insects to small birds and squirrels, and some of the larger ones are said to have managed to digest a young cat or two. I hope you didn't get too close! The edges of the petals are micro-serated, just brushing against one will leave you with several cuts. And that "inner poofle of tentacle things" is just that. They are filled with paralyzing toxins and digesting fluids, ready to inject into any creature unfortunate enough to come in contact with them. The leaves are very nutritious, but must be picked and cooked with care. Their edges arent' quite as sharp as the petals' but they can still give you a pretty nasty cut. Their roots, however, are harmless and taste absolutely delicious, if you can manage to reach them. Quite rare to find a Mongolian Snow Tulip in the U.S. This is a fine specimen too. Very nice shot.

you know any spot where a can buy a few dozens? I'm having problems with large amounts of fling and diggin stuff in the greenhouse.. are they any good against grasshoppers, flies, the neighbour's bees and naturally the occasional mole or two? I'm all about natural predators...

Probably won't do you much good against the moles, since all of the Mongolian Snow Tulip's "weapons" are above the ground, but a small would would probably clear up the troublesome insects. I would certainly not buy more than three, if you can find a dealer anywhere. There is no way to tell how large the bush will grow.

I stand corrected.

Though only long enough for someone to make a floating joke. >_>

Good call, then - that inner poofle of tentacle things is pretty unmistakable!

Looks like a peony to me. We have those back home quite a lot, two different kinds, though. This seems to be the simpler version. The other has these huge, complex blooms, they're like really thick balls of petals. And they're immensely fragrant, too. ^^

Oooh, neat. I don't remember the particular scent of these, as the whole place smelled so fragrant it was hard to tell what was coming from where...

hehehe

Joking in the back seat, I give big kudos to the skill involved. Waiting for the right moment when the sun hits the right parts and when the wind moves it just right....breathtaking!

I really love the texture on the inside of the flower. I think that is it's true beauty and the petals frame it.

You really did capture the darkness very well, it gives it a very almost mistic feel.

I was wondering if you knew what kind of flower this was?

Also I wanted to say I like how you are branching out. I really love your lizards but it is neat to see the other things you are doing as well

Great job
