Description
The herd was moving at snail's pace but that was to be expected with so many foals. Dionysus was still surprised by how many mares and foals he had encountered since the start of his journey.The sound of hooves caused him to pause, his ears twitching as he stared in the direction it came from.
The mares closed in a tight circle around the foals and pregnant mates. Traveler narrowed her eyes trying to make out what it was and if it would be better to run towards the safety of the trees before the possible approaching threat was too close.
A mare shot by with a stallion close on her tail, fear in his eyes as a scream of rage followed by the appearance of another stallion.
“Forest go go go,” Artemis yelled, breaking away from the group nudging Jayce and any of the foals she could reach.
Foxglove shoved past several horses and foals running for the forest. Calypso barred her teeth and snapped her at her tail as she pushed past her. She chased after her to give her a reason to run after she knocked over Sparrow and nearly sent Iris and Jayce sprawling on the ground.
Calix steadied Sparrow, glaring after the mare.
“You okay?”
“I’m fine, I’m fine hurry up, we gotta move,” he said, turning to look up in time to see Dionysus and the wild bay stallion clash. His ears turned back as they yelled at each other, snapping and trying to bite anything they could. He winced when he saw someone get a hoof slammed into their face.
“Shake a leg,” Arina shouted as she rushed past them disappearing into the colorful leaves of the forest.
Her voice snapped out of his horror and he scrambled after her. Calix followed close after him.
The other mares were trying to quickly guide the younger foals to the safety of the forest. Starling and Traveler brought up the rear, their ears perked until a commotion started.
A trader crow fluttered in front of Dionysus’s face even as he tried to get out of the way. The stallion took the distraction and bit Dionysus's shoulder.
“Not now trader crow!”
The crow squawked before they flew and settled on a nearby branch.
Traveler glared at it as they kept talking about trades as she hurried past as kicked at the crow.
Valerian paused guiding a spooked Jayce into the bright color leaves when she heard a loud squawk. She turned just in time to see a bird flying away and Traveler’s leg just setting down on the ground. She gave her a curious look.
“They weren’t going to leave and they would cause more problems than their trades are worth,” she said.
They turned quickly when they heard Starling shriek.
The other stallion seemed to have run into her. She stumbled and winced as something cut her leg as she reared back.
