"I think she might dislike the Liverpool jump."

"Sorry?"

"the Liverpool" he repeated as he got up over the mare's back "the Imperial one." Rov was finishing up some last adjustment on his girth but looked at him anyways, arching one eyebrow as to ask why he thought that "It's big, imposing, noisy and the approach needs to be incredibly controlled to get over it; she might look at that one."

"Or you just don't like it" Rovie commented with a small smile "Floppy is not a dirty-stopper and I highly doubt she'll refuse something today. Just do what you just said; approach it 'incredibly controlled' and you'll be just fine."

"Right. Yeah." he couldn't help but shake is head

"He's right, though" Jim looked back to where Lorelei just spoke up. She was prompted against one of the fences on the warm-up area, watching him "Don't worry too much about it, you'll be fine"

He nodded and made Kamelot move, trying and failing to hide the fact that he blushed at that. Right... Maybe his brother was right and was just his impression. Maybe. As he looked around he noted that the sky was full of angry-looking clouds, ready to discharge their anger over them any moment. Sighing, he asked whatever deity watching over them to hold the rain as much as possible. It has had rained already a few times over the course of the day and the danger of wet grass and mud was present on his mind. However, after a few minutes into the class, luck didn't seem to be on his side - it started as a few drops of water here and there and suddenly hell broke loose. Rain poured from the sky as the 4th rider went into the arena and as the class advanced closer to his own start, it seemed to get increasingly worse. Soon his name was called and Lei gave him an apologetic smile as she accompanied him out of the warm-up area to the main arena.

"Well, shit" he muttered as he softly caressed Kamelot's neck.

"What's the matter?" The girl walking next to him asked, making him look down at her.

"Nothing, really. I just don't like the rain"

"Well you don't like a lot of things, don't you?" Lei giggled, making Kamelot's ear disappear against her neck at that. Jim quietly reminded her he was still up there. Jealously was not accepted, but the whole situation made him chuckle anyways.

"I'm aware, Lei" he smiled as they stopped right in front of the gate, the other rider already tackling the last jumps of their course. Once again, he cursed under his breath.

"You ok?"

"Yeah. Just stressed." Jim smiled again, only this time was more of a fake, reassuring smile "thanks for keeping me company"

As the person on the gate gave him permission to enter the arena he could hear her say something along the lines of 'wouldn't miss it' but he wasn't so sure. It was part of her job  to help them anyways.

Despite the rain and the mud, they went on a steady albeit slower pace, trying to reach every jump in the safest way possible as the rain didn't let up at any moment and it made the conditions harder and harder for him. Still, Kamelot seemed to not mind the weather at all, taking the jumps with an ease that never stopped surprising the rider, thus giving him enough confidence to also not let her down. But as the course continued he soon had to face the aforementioned Liverpool. He really did want to enter said line in a controlled way, but as they landed the jump Kamelot slipped on the grass, successfully distracting both of them for a few seconds.

"Fuck" He said out loud as he regained control - it couldn't have been more than two or three seconds of chaos, where both rider and horse saw the ground more closely than they could have wanted, but enough to suddenly have the Liverpool out front. He quickly realized with the pace they have been keeping they wouldn't be able to cover the jump. In fact - he was sure they already were wrong on the strides. On a desperate, yet calculated attempt, he urged Kam to go forward, forward, forward covering as much ground as she could on the remaining strides and promptly indicating her to jump with as much intention as he could, resulting in a somewhat earlier than anticipated takeoff. Jim heard the soft "clang" sound Kam's hooves made against the pole as her legs crossed the jump and he distractedly noticed Mateo shouting from the public 'Go Floppy, Go!' as they landed; when he steered her again to the next jumps at the pace they had before their small incident, he dared look back - something he usually scold his students about but who cared at this point - and to his relief, the jump was left intact. As he turned his head back to the course, he softly praised the mare. It was a matter of a few more obstacles and the one he feared for was already done. He felt cold.

As if the universe wanted to mock him, as soon as he finished his course, the rain slowly came to a stop, letting the ominously grey clouds show a little of light for the next rider - Rov. Shaking his head, he exited the arena by the same place he entered, both his brother and Lei waiting there. He wished him good luck and continued walking Kamelot until they were out of the main area. There he hugged her and kissed her neck thanking her.

"You do curse a lot once you're out of child or parents ears, you know that?" He looked around until he spotted Lorelei and shrugged. She smiled "That was incredible, by the way."

"She is" he said and smiled, not knowing what else to say. He was lucky she was his, but that everyone knew.

Instead, she handed him a pair of clothes, surprising him and saving him from having to say anything else. She grinned.

"You're drenched and probably cold. Go change at least onto something warm to try and not get sick, Jim"

"Oh" Stupid. Right " Uh. Thanks"

"I'll take care of Flop here. Go"

"God, thanks Lei. Have I ever told you you're amazing?"

Kamelot didn't like at all the stupid smile his human had.
