The only thing that really sets Charmin off is if someone hurts or upsets Ivy, his personality does a complete 180 when he's mad.Only Ivy isn't scared of him when he's in a bad mood, all of his teammates and even his trainer keep clear of him.
This piture takes place in the evening after Ivy finds Abby's egg and is attacked by a Zangoose who wanted to eat the egg.
Charmin's now being a little overly protective and is growling at anything that moves.
Ivy is sleeping with the egg cradle to her chest completely oblivious to it all.
Charizard and Servine belong to Nintendo.

Two questions; mainly because I know mostly nothing about pokemon apart from the Indigo leage part of the anime
1: What kind of pokemon is Ivy?
2: Is Abby another of you characters, here as an egg, or is that also a type of pokemon?

Ivy is a Servine, which is the second evolution of the 5th gens grass starter Snivy.
Ivy is what is known as a shiny, since her coloration is different from the standard version.

You might be able to get it cheaper if you look around, that's how I got it.
Others? Hmm, well I'd go with Gimp, it's got a lot of good features, and isn't to hard to figure out how to use, plus you can get a whole lot of new brushes for it here on dA.
ArtWeaver isn't bad, it's similar to Corel Painter in how it's setup.
Here's a list of some others that seem pretty good.

Definitely a side of Charmin that we have never seen before. I really like this, it shows just hoe protective he really is of not only Ivy but an egg she just found. Hmm, doesn't look like he's going to let anyone get near Ivy for awhile, I would hate to see what he and Ace would do if Ivy and Shadow were both in trouble.
