Description                             Dream of Death

Once I slept and dreamt of Dream, of Morpheus that was
And in the dream, his sister Death, more beautiful because
She had a smile most wondrous and in her eye a glimmer
Of what it is she has, inside, her love for us, her glamour.

And so I slept most feverously, I struggled to remain,
Stay on and on forevermore – be with her but not slain,
For in the dream she took my hand and though it was but briefly,
From my hand, I then did find, she took my heart completely.

And with my heart I lost my breath, surely it did flee
Me and if more existed like her, I doubt that I would be
Here, for though it was less real than words, yet more
Real than this paper, and truest of all was her allure,

Which step by step I followed forward,
Trying to keep up as she moved onward
And I saw fear of her held by others
Fear learned from Death tales told by mothers

Not of this kind and loving Death, not this amorous woman
- rather say a reaper grim, spectre of an end to damn.
Learn it well, what I say next, please listen to the passage,
For as the dream was ended, I heard at last her message.

“Fear me not, for I love you all, each of you creations.
For though with you I might only have but two brief conversations,
You can be sure in your hearts; to me each one is precious.”
Then I awoke and on my lips, still I could feel her kiss.
