Description Project Designer
Cycle 4

Held by: ~cjrogers1993

Design Topic 8: Designers, this time, you will design an outfit based on a famous building. This is about inspiration and translation of inspiration into an acutal design. I'll assign you buildings.

With school now my new priority, I still tried to make the best I could.

My deisgn is inspired by the Middle-East's most famous architecture, the Taj Mahal. Thinking of Taj Mahal, a few things come accross to my mind. Volume, elegance, intricate detailing, symmetry. These are the factors that made my design as close, but not in a literal way, to the building i was assigned to. I could have done anything big and very avant-guard, but i wanted to be a little safer this time.

First off the color scheme is definitely based off of the building itself. The marble texture is shown in the printing of the silk crepe. The intricate design of the bodice is based off of the intricate design of the Taj Mahal's main entrance. The rhinestones, or maybe gems if you want it very expensive, denote the architecture's wonder and elegnace. The bottom of the dress, consisting of silk tulle, represents volume. Although the whole design was only to be based off the building, i also incorporated the culture in the location of the Taj Mahal. The arab/indian culture. The entirety represents this approach.

Now....back to my homework....

Materials:
Silk tulle(bottom)
Satin (lining)
Silk crepe (entire body)
Gems and rhinestones

Design and coloring by your truly, ~ceazar

Judges' Comments:
"A disco ball! The outfit was a disco ball. It was wonderful! All of the sparkle and glam, all added up to the Taj Mahal. I was so glad that he didn't do white, he did a creme print which was lovely. The draping and layering was masterful and the embroidery was wonderful!!! Stunning. The colors and details are wonderful - all the use of the rhinestones, really balance the whole design out. I just, somehow, feel that this is lacking the punch that really denotes it as the "Taj Mahal", although the longer I look at it, the more it appeals to me as a whole. I think it's something about the bodice that throws me off a bit, but either way, this is something I would love to see realized.
I hope to see even more fabulousness in the next round!"

I would SO wear this! It's my "dreamdress" (if there is such a thing)

It's gorgeous! All the details make it ultra elegant and feminine. And before reading your description I actually thought it kind of resembled the Taj Mahal. It's amazing.

This is very rich and elegant, I also like how you've added that Eastern look with the shawl. This would definatly make a high class galla dress at the Oscar shows!

Great work love, such a wonderful and wearable piece indeed
I'm looking forward to seeing made garments from you next year,
but be prepared for your tutors, I had a bad run in with one of mine
on Friday, as a result, it's quite possible she could have turned half
of our fashion department on me

I love this, great work. It reminds me of Mumtaz Mahal, for whom the Taj Mahal was built for. for me you represent the Taj, and yet also her aswell, which is what the Taj Mahal was for.
